installation or interface changes required
to provide significant fuel savings of 7 to 12
percent, depending on mission. The T56-
A-15 Series 3.5 engine enhancement
program is intended not only for those
customers who are planning to extend the
operational service lives of T56-A-15
propulsion systems up to and beyond
2025, but also for customers who are
looking for ways to reduce operational fuel
costs and lifecycle maintenance costs, all
the while providing more hot-day/highaltitude
mission capability options. The T56
3.5 will provide C-130 operators with all
these benefits, using proven Rolls-Royce
materials and technologies, with no
airframe modifications required, and, in
most cases, less than a 5-year financial
payback."
C-130 WHEEL BRAKES SYSTEM
IMPROVEMENT
A briefing on wheel brakes system
improvements (WBSI) for the C-130 was
given by Egan Wheeler, of Air Force Global
Logistics Support Center (AFGLSC).
Wheeler began his brief with the current
status of the program, and he discussed its
three main goals: improving safety,
improving maintainability, and reducing
costs.
Wheeler also described the program's
scope, which included developing antiskid
capacity, improving wheels and brakes, and
upgrading the brake-metering valve. A
timeline and program milestones were
presented, with a fleet retrofit projected to
begin in October 2011 and end in
September 2014.
