Countries with smaller economies always have faced<br />
obstacles maintaining, repairing, and supplying a wide<br />
range of aircraft from different manufacturers. Through<br />
1933, the air force in El Salvador had a manageable<br />
size fleet of twenty-one aircraft, but those planes came<br />
from seven different manufacturers with incompatible<br />
parts and maintenance procedures. Today, El Salavdor's<br />
air force has about seventy aircraft built by nine<br />
different manufacturers: Basler, Bell, Cessna, ENAER,<br />
Fouga, Hughes, IAI, Morane-Saulnier, Rockwell, and Sino Swearingen.<br />
In fact, logistics problems contributed to the toll during what became<br />
known as the "soccer war" in 1969. The brief conflict between El Salvador<br />
and Honduras began when tensions based on immigration and social issues<br />
erupted during a soccer game between the two nations. Despite<br />
Honduras's smaller population and notably less developed economy, the<br />
Honduran air force destroyed most of El Salvador's active aircraft.<br />
