standards.<br />

A. When the protective equipment is issued, the Peace Officer shall properly wear<br />

and maintain the equipment according to the State's policies and procedures. All<br />

Peace Officer protective equipment provided to employees shall remain the<br />

property of the State. Items lost or damaged due to negligence of the employee<br />

shall be replaced by the employee at the employee's expense. Items which through<br />

normal wear and/or damage not due to the negligence of the employee, shall be<br />

replaced by the State.<br />

B. Each Youth <strong>Correctional</strong> Counselor on post and actively supervising wards shall<br />

remain in visual, telephonic or radio contact with one other <strong>Correctional</strong> Peace<br />

Officer. Both parties agree that program areas covered by frequency modulated or<br />

ultrasonic personal alarm devices are exempt from the requirement unless local<br />

policy mandates otherwise. Existing policy at local facilities concerning Youth<br />

<strong>Correctional</strong> Counselor security equipment and ward supervision will remain<br />

intact.<br />

7.06 Safety Equipment (Escapes and Escorts)<br />

A. The State shall determine the protective and safety equipment to be issued to<br />

employees who are assigned to escape duty or escort/transportation duty. This<br />

equipment may include firearms, mechanical restraints, chemical restraints,<br />

communication devices, badges, distinguishable clothing, CPR masks, protective<br />

vests, and other equipment deemed necessary by the departments.<br />

B. CYA Transportation Officers and Dog Handlers shall also be issued firearms.<br />

C. Transportation Officers escorting on out-of-state trips, and not in uniform, may<br />

purchase and use a belt badge during such trips.<br />

D. CDC and CYA vehicles dedicated for transportation of inmates/wards shall<br />

contain a radio or cellular telephone capable of communicating with the<br />

<strong>California</strong> Highway Patrol.<br />

7.07 CDC and CYA Infectious Diseases Control Plan<br />
