Using Computers for Managing Patient
Information and Conducting Research:
The Low Cost Approach. An Indian
Experience
Presenters: Jatinder Bali, Yogesh Kumar Gupta
Objective: The course discusses how to best to use the digital
tools to manage patient information and conduct research
using limited resources. It dwells on the need assessment,
selection of the appropriate systems and processes, pitfalls
encountered in communicating the needs of the ophthalmic
business and research. It demonstrates how the information
should be stored to make it meaningful and adaptable for
research.
Summary of Content: The course components include selection
of hardware and the software, information systems and
functional area applications, transaction processing systems,
integrated applications and networking, data modeling,
creating and managing databases, data warehousing and
selecting appropriate tools for data analysis. It discusses
problems encountered in portability of data across platforms,
extensibility of clinical systems and processes, and emerging
trends in knowledge generation.
Target Audience: General and Subspecialist Ophthalmologist in
Different Settings-Standalone Practices, Group Practices and
Dual Scheimpflug Analysis of Anterior
Segment
Presenters: Carlos Arce, Pablo Suarez, Shady Awwad, Ronald
Krugger, Waleed Al-Tuwairqi, Har Bor Fam
Objective: To present the features and applications of the Galilei,
a dual Scheimpflug and dual Placido analyzer of the anterior
segment of the eye.
Summary of Content: Galilei integrates Scheimpflug imaging of
anterior segment of the eye and Placido topography to produce
curvature, elevation, wavefront, shape, and pachymetry maps
and indices, corneal and lens densitometry, and biometry of the
anterior segment including anterior chamber depth, angle, and
lens thickness. Applications include differential diagnosis of KC
and PMD, identification of risk factors for refractive surgery and
biomechanical features of the cornea, preoperative planning of
cataract surgery or intracorneal segments, IOL calculation and
Uveitis and Systemic Disease. How to
Manage the Cases Where the First Signs
Concern the Eye Alone
Presenters: Chris Kalogeropoulos, Khalid Tabbara, Ilknur Tugal,
Sofia Androudi, Alexander Charonis
Objective: The aim of the course is to emphasize the need and the
methods for diagnostic exploration and management with regard
to underlying systemic disease in cases of uveitis (and scleritis),
where the first symptoms and signs of the disease presence
concern the eye alone.
Summary of Content: The topics that will be presented and
discussed in the course include cases of scleritis, tuberculous and
syphilitic uveitis, Behcet disease, uveitis in juvenile rheumatoid
arthritis, sarcoid uveitis and retinal/choroidal vasculitis in
systemic lupus erythematosus. Characteristic cases, avoiding
extremely easy or extremely uncommon ones, which would be
