I. Introduction: History, types and principles of endoscope.
II. Clinical applications of endoscope in ophthalmology
A. Indications of endoscopy in posterior segment of the eye
i. Retinal pathology with significant media opacity
ii. Imaging of areas inaccessible to conventional viewing system
iii. Assist in scleral fixation of intraocular lens
iv. In severe ocular trauma especially in cases with intraocular
foreign body.
v. Endoscope assisted pars plana vitrectomy in endophthalmitis.
B. Indications of endoscopy in anterior segment of the eye
i. Diagnostic endoscopy prior to penetrating keraoplasty
ii. In assisting with phacoemulsification in eyes with
corneal opacity
iii. Endocyclophotocoagulation of ciliary processes in
intractable glaucoma
C. Limitations of endoscopy:
i. No stereopsis and small field of view
ii. Steep Learning curve
iii. Cost
