Corneal Specular Microscopy
Presenters: Fernando Abib, Dulcemar Abib
Objective: To identify corneal endothelial dystrophies,
degenerations and corneas with risk of decompensation in
intraocular surgeries such as cataract and refractive, using
corneal specular microscope.
Summary of Content: To understand and analyze relatively
normal values over a lifetime of the endothelial cell density,
endothelial cell area, polymegethism by coefficient of variation
and pleomorphism by hexagonal cell percentage. To know the
reliability indices for each endothelial examination. Know the
endothelial features in: cornea guttata, corneal and endothelial
dystrophies, endothelial degeneration, obstetric traumatism,
contuse and/or cut-contuse trauma, contact lens users,
intra-ocular surgery, photorefractive surgery, IOL implantation in
anterior chamber, corneal transplantation, corneal edema,
uveitis, glaucoma and endothelitis.

Evaluation of Retinal Degenerations in
Infants and Children
Presenters: Sandeep Grover, Craig McKeown, Byron Lam
Objective: At the conclusion of the course, the pediatric and
comprehensive ophthalmologist will have a better
understanding of different inherited retinal degenerationsdiagnosis,
differential diagnosis utilizing clinical features and
diagnostic testing, when needed.
Summary of Content: This course will provide a step-by-step
approach leading to the diagnosis of inherited retinal
degenerations in infants and young children. This will be based
on case-based scenarios using ocular history, family history,
clinical findings and diagnostic testing, when applicable.
Interactive discussion of diagnostic testing will also include
optical coherence tomography (OCT), electrophysiological
testing and genetic testing.
Target Audience: Pediatric Ophthalmologist, Comprehensive
Ophthalmologist

Presbyopia, the Corneal Approach:
State of the Art
Presenters: Mounir Khalifa, Ronald Krueger, Justavo Tamayo,
Jorge Alio, Tarek Abdel Wahab
Educational Objective: Attendee will be able to design the best
corneal treatment profile for each presbyopic patient according
to his age, error of refraction, and corneal measurements.
Course Discreption: Course will discuss different corneal
methods of correcting presbyopia including Allegretto
Custom-Q, Visx presbyLASIK, Amaris PresbyMAX, and Femtec
INTRACOR. Presbyopia and its adaptive optics will be
demonstrated.
