The Lull Before the Storm
Presenters: Kumar Doctor, Amar Agarwal, Mohan Rajan,
Abhay Vasavada, Jenin Patel, Gaurav Luthra
Course Objective: Attendees will discuss how complications
happened. A detailed discussion on identification of sequence
of events leading to the complications and how they could be
avoided for better end results and good patient satisfaction for
better visual outcome.
Course Summary: Course will describe how simple cases go
into disasters in Phaco. It is an advanced video instruction course
in which difficult situations like Chemosis, a typical surge at the
last piece, Nucleus drop, re-gluing the sublaxated IOL,
sublaxation of IOLs, Zonular dialysis, anterior capsular flap
complication, Instrument hook induced complications, incision
going wrong and ccc going radial, microphacogone tough and
many more are shown. The course will also cover the unsteady
Capsular Bag.
Target Audience: General Ophthalmologists (Anterior segment
Surgeons)
Changing Trends in Trabeculectomy
Video Assisted Skill Transfer Course
Presenters: Ganesh Venkataraman, Sathyan Parthasarathi,
Ramakrishnan Rengappa
Objective: To highlight various modifications associated with
trabeculectomy and their outcomes.
Summary of Content: Trabeculectomy, the guarded filteration
surgery, has been a gold standard in glaucoma surgery for the
last 5-6 decades. If performed properly it helps to lower
intraocular pressure without any adverse effects. Complications
of trabeculectomy occur even in the hands of the expert. To
enhance success rates additional modifications are in vogue.
These modifications have not caught on uniformly amongst the
practising ophthalmologist. In this video instruction course we
describe the various modifications (preparation and use of
cytocidal and cytotoxic antimetabolites, Type 2 ologen collagen
matrix implant, various releasable suture techniques and the
newer express shunt) along with tips for safe surgery for optimal
outcome of trabeculectomy.
Target Audience: Practicing ophthalmologist, Residents
Course Level: Advanced
Pediatric Cataract Surgery: Conquering
the Challenge
Presenters: Jagat Ram, Ken Nischal, Jaspreet Sukhija,
Sudarshan Khokhar
Objective: To educate and discuss the challenges in the
pediatric cataract management.
Summary of Content: Major challenges associated with
pediatric cataract surgery in growing eyes are selection of
optimal surgical technique, management of aphakia, handling
of technically difficult surgery, intraocular lens (IOL) power
calculation and management of postoperative complications.
Refined and perfected surgical techniques, availability of
suitable IOL designs as well as understanding the growth and
refractive changes in children have made IOL implantation safe
modality in the management of pediatric cataract. Issues of
concern are the optimal age for IOL implantation, whether IOL
implantation should be as primary or a secondary, what IOL
power to choose, target postoperative refractive status.
Latest trends in surgical techniques and the importance of
choosing the optimal means of optical rehabilitation will be
discussed.
Topics:
1. Pediatric cataract and its management: Global Scenario,
15 mins, Ken Nischal
2. Preoperative work up including IOL
power calculation in children, 10 mins, Jaspreet Sukhija
3. Surgical techniques for pediatric cataract surgery,
postoperative care and complication management, 25 mins,
Jagat Ram
4. Optical rehabilitation and management of amblyopia,
10 mins, Jaspreet Sukhija
5. Managing pediatric cataract surgery in complicated situations
PHPV etc. 15 mins, Sudarshan Khokhar
6. Audience Participation, 15 mins
Target Audience: Pediatric Ophthalmologist
Educational Level: Intermediate to Advanced
OCT Findings and Surgical Management
Presenters: Magdy Moussa, Stanley Chang, Hassan Mortada,
Ashraf Shaarawy
Objective: Role of spectral domain OCT as a valuable tool in
assessment and management of the vitreoretinal interface
disorders.
Summary of Content: This course will provide a detailed
discussion on the role of spectral domain OCT as an
indispensable tool in assessment of the vitreoretinal interface
disorders including macular holes, lamellar macular holes,
