- ensure env ironmental friendliness of related buildings and dev elopment<br />

- encourage technic al and organizational environmental s olutions<br />

- ensure environmental quality for all features of the ev ent<br />

- promote a new economic approach in the long term<br />

- improv e the quality of life<br />

- promote and introduce environmentally sound technologies in the region<br />

• Seek variants and alternativ es. Propos e various solutions for the location. Carry<br />

out social and env ironmental analys es , and strategic al EIAs for all the alternativ es<br />

in order to optimize the choice of location.<br />

• Draw up environmental standards (guidelines) for the event. Es tablish policy<br />

documents for the follow ing areas of action (s ee als o sub-s ection 2.5.3). Carry out<br />

a detailed EIA for:<br />

- location and landsc aping<br />

- sports facilities<br />

- sports equipment<br />

- trans por tation<br />

- accommodation and catering<br />

- w ater management and sanitation<br />

- energy<br />

- w aste management<br />

- administration<br />

- monitoring and aw areness programmes<br />

• Ensure c oordination, c ollaboration and tec hnic al s upport.<br />

• Plan an environmental budget covering env ironmental s tudies , protection and<br />

restoration measures, and environmental education and public aw areness-rais ing<br />

programmes before, during and after the event.<br />

• Guarantee the restoration of temporary sites and ins tallations.<br />

• Ensure the commitment to env ironmental protec tion by all the partic ipants in the<br />

event.<br />

• Foresee environmental c ompensation measures acc ording to residual impac ts (i.e.<br />

compensate the destruction of natural areas by recreating natural areas<br />

elsew here).<br />

• Inform, motivate, c ommunicate and educate. People must understand the policies<br />

and object iv es.
