BA students receive orientation materials from their<br />

Online Academic Advisor.<br />

The Department of Academic Services, through the<br />

Academic Advising, Academic Scheduling, Learning<br />

Services, Library, and Registrar’s Offices, provides<br />

ongoing advisement to students regarding all aspects<br />

of their academic studies, including academic<br />

progress check-ins, scheduling, student records, and<br />

individual curricular advising. Learning Services<br />

provides comprehensive services to support<br />

students’ academic success and is staffed by the<br />

Learning Services Coordinator and trained peer<br />

tutors. Support from Learning Services is available<br />

to all resident and online students.<br />

The Career Services Office supports online and<br />

resident students in their efforts to secure and<br />

complete their internships, as well as in searching<br />

for eventual employment positions. Through both<br />

classes and individualized appointments, students<br />

can receive assistance with resumes, cover letters,<br />

interviewing, negotiating and other aspects of a job<br />

search. Career Services maintains a database of<br />

NECI’s approved internship sites and postings of<br />

current industry position openings. As part of the<br />

internship program, students participate in an online<br />

course through which students receive ongoing<br />

advice and input from Career Services and their<br />

NECI instructors throughout their internship<br />

experience. Online students are encouraged to<br />

contact Career Services for career counseling.<br />

The Department of <strong>Student</strong> Services provides<br />

general student support services, including<br />

residential and NECI community life. Among the<br />

broad range of services offered, <strong>Student</strong> Services<br />

assists students with campus and housing questions,<br />

referrals for personal and medical issues, and a<br />

wide range of student activities.<br />

On-campus Coordinators of Residence Life provide<br />

assistance to all students in campus housing.<br />

<strong>Student</strong> Resident Assistants (RAs) provide direct<br />

support to students in the residence halls and report<br />

to the Coordinators of Residence Life. RAs receive<br />

training prior to each term on group and<br />

interpersonal skills as well as alcohol and drug<br />

abuse prevention. RAs and the Coordinators of<br />

Residence Life are available on a daily basis to<br />

discuss issues and concerns in the NECI residence<br />

halls, as they arise.<br />

students. <strong>Student</strong>s may seek counseling for a variety<br />

of reasons, including but not limited to, alcohol or<br />

drug abuse issues, emotional problems, stress,<br />

anxiety, depression, and crisis intervention. <strong>Student</strong><br />

Services can assist students with referrals. Regular<br />

support is provided by a network of local mental<br />

health professionals and by such agencies as<br />

Washington County Mental Health Services<br />

(229.0591) in Montpelier, and the Central Vermont<br />

Substance Abuse Services (223.4156) in Berlin.<br />

There is a strong Alcoholics Anonymous<br />

community in Vermont and Montpelier has a very<br />

active chapter.<br />

<strong>Student</strong> Associations: Governance,<br />

Recreational and Social Activities<br />

<strong>Student</strong> Council<br />

The <strong>Student</strong> Representative Council is charged with<br />

advising NECI administrators on school policies<br />

from the viewpoint of the NECI student body. The<br />

Council’s resolutions shall be treated as the voice of<br />

all NECI students.<br />

• The <strong>Student</strong> Council is responsible for<br />

communicating student concerns and feedback to<br />

appropriate members of the NECI administration.<br />

• The <strong>Student</strong> Council is responsible for<br />

communicating administration policies to the<br />

NECI student body.<br />

• The <strong>Student</strong> Council is responsible for<br />

communicating Council policies and resolutions<br />

to the NECI student body.<br />

• The <strong>Student</strong> Council is responsible for planning,<br />

promoting and executing NECI approved student<br />

events and activities.<br />

• Elections for <strong>Student</strong> Council are held quarterly<br />

and elected positions generally coincide with the<br />

academic block schedule.<br />

<strong>Student</strong> Advisory Council<br />

Each term, interested students pooled from the<br />

active <strong>Student</strong> Council are encouraged to meet as a<br />

group with administrators to discuss school issues<br />

that are of concern to them.<br />

Resident Assistants<br />

Resident Assistants meet regularly to participate in<br />

trainings, exchange information, and represent<br />

student needs in the residence halls.<br />

In addition to these on-campus resources, sources<br />

outside the school are also available to NECI<br />
