associated with credit load or registration status.<br />

Delays in starting internship can result in not being<br />

prepared to return to residency on time and/or to<br />

delays in graduating. Except in extenuating<br />

circumstances, the student who is not complete with<br />

internship within the allotted timeframe will be<br />

withdrawn from the program at the end of the<br />

originally scheduled internship period. All<br />

applicable financial aid rules will apply. In such<br />

cases, the student may be allowed to complete the<br />

internship requirements, but will no longer be<br />

considered an enrolled student.<br />

<strong>Student</strong>s who have not secured or started an<br />

internship will be placed on Administrative<br />

Probation status for up to 21 days. If requirements<br />

are not met within the 21 day Administrative<br />

Probation period, the student will be considered<br />

inactive and will be withdrawn from the program<br />

effective the last day of attendance. <strong>Student</strong>s<br />

withdrawn from the program will be ineligible for<br />

financial aid and may face other financial and<br />

program sequence consequences. Any hours<br />

worked while withdrawn from the program may not<br />

be recognized as internship hours.<br />

<strong>Student</strong>s who have been withdrawn for failure to<br />

begin an internship timely, and secure an internship<br />

at a later date may be required to pay a $275<br />

Reinstatement Fee. Those who delay internship<br />

start beyond the half-way point in a term will be<br />

required to wait until the subsequent term to be<br />

enrolled in the internship.<br />

All students receive an evaluation from the<br />

Internship Supervisor. An unsatisfactory Internship<br />

Supervisor’s report of student performance (either<br />

professional behavior or practical skills) may result<br />

in the student being required to undergo an<br />

assessment in order to be allowed return to the<br />

school or in a requirement to repeat the internship<br />

experience. In cases where the student must repeat<br />

the internship, he/she may complete the internship<br />

requirements, but will no longer be considered an<br />

enrolled student. For students whose program<br />

requires a subsequent residency at NECI, the<br />

student may be asked not to return for the scheduled<br />

residency and will be withdrawn from the program.<br />

All applicable financial aid rules will apply.<br />

<strong>Student</strong>s withdrawn due to an unsatisfactory<br />

internship may be required to develop a plan for<br />

approval by the Academic Advising Office and<br />

Career Services, which requires additional<br />

professional employment for up to one year and<br />

submission of periodic performance reports to<br />

NECI. Reinstatement will depend upon good<br />

performance evaluations, a recommendation to<br />

return for further study from the individual’s<br />

supervisor, and available space.<br />

BA Programs: Non-Resident Terms<br />

<strong>Student</strong>s in the third and fourth year of the oncampus<br />

bachelor’s degree programs are required to<br />

complete a 9-month non-resident period (three<br />

academic terms), including a 700-hour internship<br />

and 3 online courses. According to the program<br />

schedule, students are expected to complete 234<br />

hours of internship and one online course during<br />

each 3-month enrollment term of the non-resident<br />

period. Deviations from this program sequence can<br />

impact the student’s graduation date and/or<br />

eligibility for financial aid; students must have prior<br />

approval from the Director of Academic Services<br />

and Director of Financial Aid for any alternate<br />

sequence. To ensure continued progress toward<br />

graduation during this time away from campus, all<br />

students in the non-resident terms must maintain a<br />

minimum of half-time enrollment and will not be<br />

enrolled in classes or internship with less than a<br />

half-time credit load.<br />

<strong>Student</strong>s are expected to begin their internship<br />

immediately following the end of the residency<br />

period; students must have secured an internship at<br />

an approved internship site, including an<br />

employment start date (within 21 days of the term<br />

start) and wage, prior to the student being registered<br />

for internship or online courses. Please refer to<br />

Internship Enrollment Requirements for detailed<br />

requirements.<br />

<strong>Student</strong>s are also expected to participate fully in<br />

their scheduled online classes; failure to participate<br />

may result in withdrawal from the course. Please<br />

refer to Online Course Attendance Policy for<br />

details.<br />

<strong>Student</strong>s are expected to complete all non-resident<br />

term requirements within the originally scheduled<br />

three-term, 9-month, non-resident period. The end<br />

of the third non-residency term marks the end of the<br />

student’s enrollment. All applicable financial aid<br />

rules will apply. In cases where a student has not<br />

yet completed their course work, the student may be<br />

allowed to complete the program requirements, but<br />

will no longer be considered an enrolled student.<br />

<strong>Student</strong>s in the fully online bachelor’s program do<br />

not have non-resident terms.<br />
