Fees for Make-Up Work<br />

<strong>Student</strong>s are required to make up incomplete<br />

classroom assignments and lab hours in a timely<br />

manner. Scheduling make-up time is dependent<br />

upon space available and is not guaranteed.<br />

Make-up time that extends beyond the student’s<br />

normal residency must be scheduled through the<br />

Academic Advising Office. <strong>Student</strong>s will be<br />

charged tuition, room, and board fees, as<br />

appropriate, for all such make-up work according to<br />

the schedule below. Additional fees will be<br />

discussed at the time of scheduling; students are<br />

expected to meet with <strong>Student</strong> Financial<br />

Services/<strong>Student</strong> Accounts to determine specific<br />

fees and to establish a payment plan prior to the<br />

start of any classes. Additional fees are in addition<br />

to those included in the student’s Enrollment<br />

Agreement. <strong>Student</strong>s may appeal make-up fees in<br />

cases of medical or family emergency or if a<br />

documented educational need is present.<br />

Fees for Make-up:<br />

Make-up Fee/resident classes $350 per credit<br />

Make-up Fee/online classes $150 per credit<br />

Additional Room/Board Fee $290 per week*<br />

*room/board fees are weekly fees and are<br />

not pro-rated for individual days.<br />

*Housing is not guaranteed.<br />

Reinstatement/re-enrollment Fee** $275<br />

<strong>Student</strong>s must make arrangements for any necessary<br />

extended housing for make-up work, in writing,<br />

through the Coordinator of <strong>Student</strong> Services. Fees<br />

are subject to change; students should refer to the<br />

Financial Aid Fact Booklet for the most current<br />

information.<br />

Internship Courses<br />

Introduction<br />

The internship is an academic requirement of all<br />

resident programs. <strong>New</strong> <strong>England</strong> <strong>Culinary</strong> <strong>Institute</strong><br />

will provide internship placement support services<br />

to assist the student in securing a 700/450-hour<br />

minimum, paying internship that the student will<br />

undertake following successful completion of each<br />

residence, but the ultimate responsibility for<br />

securing an internship lies with the student.<br />

The goal of internship and related courses are to<br />

fortify the learning from residency, while inspiring<br />

the student’s aspirations for the future. Internships<br />

should be appropriately challenging based on<br />

individual skill and professional goals. To ensure<br />

that the internship meets these objectives, all<br />

internships must be approved by the Career<br />

Services Office.<br />

<strong>Student</strong>s are responsible for all transportation,<br />

housing and incidental expenses associated with<br />

securing and participating in the internship.<br />

<strong>Student</strong>s receiving financial aid will not receive<br />

disbursements to their student account until they are<br />

officially enrolled in the internship terms. The<br />

internship must be successfully completed within<br />

the scheduled terms and will be monitored by<br />

Career Services. Before the student is given credit<br />

for the internship, all written evaluations by the<br />

internship supervisors must be in the Career<br />

Services Office. In all AOS and BA programs, an<br />

online study that will enhance the student’s<br />

experience in the foodservice industry must also be<br />

completed during the internship.<br />

The internship course consists of:<br />

1. Completion of the minimum number of<br />

required hours of on-the-job training in quality<br />

food service/hospitality operations or other<br />

related work<br />

2. Completion of the Online Course (AOS and<br />

BA)<br />

3. The Internship Assessment.<br />

• Participation in Discussion Forums<br />

• Site Facts<br />

• Self Assessment<br />

• Hours Verification<br />

• Final Evaluation<br />

Internship requirements for each program are<br />

outlined below. To maintain their enrollment status<br />

at NECI, students must be working at a NECIapproved<br />

internship site (as verified by their<br />

employer) in the number of terms outlined. Any<br />

changes to this internship structure must be preapproved<br />

by Academic Advising and the <strong>Student</strong><br />

Financial Services office. <strong>Student</strong>s in Year 4 of the<br />

BA programs must also be actively participating in<br />

one online class each term. Please refer to the<br />

Program Enrollment Standards section of this<br />

<strong>Handbook</strong> for more detail.<br />

• Year 1:<br />

700 hour internship and online course<br />

6 months/2 terms; complete 350 hours each term<br />
