eTrust Directory Modules
The Relational Database Management System (RDBMS)
The RDBMS stores and maintains the Directory Information Base (DIB) within
specially designed tables. Each DIT or DIB image stores its own set of tables in
the RDBMS’s portion of the file system.
The RDBMS contributes to the performance, reliability, and management of the
DXserver system with the following features:
■
■
■
■
■
■
■
Caching
Query optimization
Multiprocessing and locking
Check-pointing and recovery
International character sets and collating sequences
Database table and indexing management
Housekeeping and tuning utilities
Unlike other X.500 and LDAP implementations, particularly in-memory
implementations, the DXserver does not load directory information and other
indexes into memory on startup, unless DXcache is configured. See the chapter
“General Administration” for more information about DXcache.
Configuration Files
When a DSA starts up, it initializes with commands stored in configuration files.
The configuration files are organized into logical groups corresponding to their
function (for example, logging, schema, knowledge).
DXtools
The DXtools provide general data management facilities, including:
■
■
■
■
■
■
Managing databases
Tuning and backing up directory data
Importing and exporting directory data
Bulk loading databases from a prepared LDIF file
Bulk extracting a database to an LDIF file for comparison
LDIF sorting and comparison
For descriptions of these tools, see the chapter "Using DXtools".
