Provide parkl<strong>and</strong>s throughout the city at a<br />

st<strong>and</strong>ard <strong>of</strong> 14.5 acres per 1,000 residents.<br />

Acquire <strong>and</strong> develop parks to provide an<br />

equitable distribution <strong>of</strong> facilities to all city<br />

residents; plan for all residents to be<br />

within one-half mile <strong>of</strong> a neighborhood<br />

capabilities, skill levels, age, income <strong>and</strong><br />

activity interests.<br />

Cooperate with public <strong>and</strong> private<br />

agencies <strong>and</strong> with private l<strong>and</strong>owners to<br />

set aside l<strong>and</strong>s <strong>and</strong> resources within the<br />

urban growth areas, especially along the<br />

Skookumchuck <strong>and</strong> Chehalis Rivers <strong>and</strong><br />

the proposed Lewis County Trail.<br />

Preserve <strong>and</strong> protect significant<br />

environmental features for park <strong>and</strong> open<br />

space use including unique wetl<strong>and</strong>s, open<br />

spaces, woodl<strong>and</strong>s, shorelines <strong>and</strong><br />

waterfronts which reflect <strong>Centralia</strong>'s<br />

natural heritage.<br />

Incorporate historical <strong>and</strong> cultural l<strong>and</strong>s,<br />

artifacts <strong>and</strong> facilities such as the Borst<br />

Homestead <strong>and</strong> the Burlington Northern<br />

Railroad depot into the park system to<br />

preserve these interests <strong>and</strong> provide a<br />

balanced social experience.<br />
