Simultaneously, the group continued to
develop new markets. The collection and
processing of used household oil from
restaurants was extended to two additional
regions: the west and the Paris region.
In addition, a manager was hired for the
methanisation activity.
Akiolis has focused extra attention on
searching for markets that offer the
highest possible added value for the
finished products, especially within the pet
food industry. New markets were explored
abroad. Furthermore, new applications
were presented for existing products, such
as the use of degreased bones for filtering
in the sugar industry.
Outlook for 2009
Akiolis must adjust to the consequences
of the worldwide crisis in raw materials. In
this respect, the market price for animal
fats dropped by more than 50 % at the
end of 2008. However, the restructuring
efforts implemented in recent years should
alleviate the impact of this crisis, especially
for the meat-related activities.
