The Risk Management Department
primarily focused its attention on
prevention. For example, a DVD was
distributed with examples of good and bad
human conduct on the shop floor. The DVD
is available to be used in all departments
of the group for training purposes. The
department also gave presentations to
the commercial teams on product liability
and how problems can be avoided. The
department also continued work on
the development of health and safety
standards for Tessenderlo Group as a
whole.
Community relations
A crucial aspect of corporate social
responsibility is good community relations
in the way Tessenderlo Group maintains
with the local community around the
various sites. It is very important that
the company and local residents have a
good relationship. Openness and good
communications play a key role in this
respect. A good example of this are the
open house days when local residents
are informed about the activities at the
production sites.
The social role of the company goes even
further than the immediate surroundings.
It is especially important that youngsters
receive objective information about
the chemical industry in general and
Tessenderlo Group in particular.
They must be made aware of the major
role this industry plays in their daily lives.
A close co-operation with educational
authorities is important to accomplish this.
This specifically translates into company
visits and a variety of initiatives that bridge
the gap between industry and education.
