7 Decades<br />
of Radio <strong>Dubrovnik</strong><br />
When, on 9 April 1942,<br />
the sounds of the old<br />
Dalmatian song Oj<br />
more duboko resounded in the then not<br />
<strong>to</strong>o crowded radio ether, probably<br />
even the initia<strong>to</strong>rs of the project could<br />
not imagine that they were starting<br />
something that was about <strong>to</strong> last till<br />
the present day, for 70 years. It was<br />
with this particular song that Radio<br />
<strong>Dubrovnik</strong>, officially called the State<br />
Radio Station <strong>Dubrovnik</strong>, began <strong>to</strong><br />
broadcast. A hand-drawn plan from the<br />
very beginning has been preserved, on<br />
the basis of which the then <strong>Dubrovnik</strong><br />
radio enthusiasts constructed the<br />
first Radio <strong>Dubrovnik</strong> transmitter.<br />
<strong>Dubrovnik</strong> thus became the second<br />
radio station in Croatia. The first one,<br />
Radio Zagreb, went on air on 15 May<br />
1926.<br />
However, by a combination of<br />
his<strong>to</strong>ric circumstances, two and a half<br />
yeas later, it so happened that Radio<br />
<strong>Dubrovnik</strong> became - the first one!<br />
Namely, launched during World War<br />
II, the first Radio <strong>Dubrovnik</strong> shared the<br />
destiny of the his<strong>to</strong>rical events of the<br />
time, during the Italian and German<br />
military rule in <strong>Dubrovnik</strong> and the<br />
Independent State of Croatia. When<br />
Partisan troops entered <strong>Dubrovnik</strong> on<br />
18 Oc<strong>to</strong>ber 1944, the following words<br />
