companies. These plant tours provide<br />

WCMA members with a unique opportunity<br />

to observe innovative woodworking manufacturing<br />

operations and discover new manufacturing<br />

techniques, exchange ideas and<br />

learn about alternative manufacturing methods.<br />

In conjunction with our Fall Conference,<br />

we also hold a Wood Technology Expo,<br />

designed to encourage more interaction<br />

between WCMA Technology Partners and<br />

Member companies. WCMA Technology<br />

Partners are a select group of manufacturers<br />

of woodworking machinery, equipment,<br />

software and business solutions who exhibit<br />

at this Wood Technology Expo. These companies<br />

discuss their latest technological<br />

advancements that offer solutions to wood<br />

processing challenges for dimension and<br />

component manufacturers. Manufacturers of<br />

materials handling, gluing equipment, dust<br />

collection, fingerjointers, moulders, planers,<br />

cut-off and rip saws, routers, tenoners, CNC<br />

machinery, dry kilns, optimizing equipment,<br />

finishing systems, yield improvement systems,<br />

tooling, software and business solutions<br />

are represented.<br />

Industry Research and Market Studies<br />

The WCMA conducts a number of proprietary<br />

technical and market studies to help<br />

our members identify new markets and<br />

improve their company’s competitive position.<br />

WCMA members rely on the annual<br />

WCMA Dimension & Component Market<br />

Study to keep them informed of current<br />

business conditions and industry trends.<br />

This study reveals end-use markets for<br />

dimension and components, species and<br />

grades of lumber used, type of components<br />

produced for both domestic and export markets,<br />

and future outlook for sales, net<br />

income, material and labor costs, and capital<br />

expenditures.<br />

The Wage & Benefit and Cost-of-Doing-<br />

Business Surveys allow members to compare<br />

their costs of doing business and wage<br />

& benefit structures with other member<br />

companies. These valuable studies are the<br />

only ones conducted for the wood component<br />

industry and are available to all participating<br />

WCMA members free of charge.<br />

Industry Representation<br />

The WCMA has joined forces with other<br />

industry organizations to promote and protect<br />

the interests of the wood component<br />

industry. We are a founding member of the<br />

Hardwood Council, which promotes the<br />

desirability and advantages of wood products<br />

over non-wood products. The WCMA<br />

is also a member of the Hardwood<br />

Federation who represents the interests of all<br />

Hardwood producers regarding legislative<br />

and regulatory matters.<br />

The WCMA represents over 140 wood<br />

component manufacturers and 40<br />

Technology Partners that produce products<br />

for the cabinet, furniture, millwork, flooring,<br />

building products, and related decorative<br />

wood product industries. These products are<br />

made from Hardwoods, softwoods, and<br />

engineered wood materials. Member companies<br />

are located throughout the United<br />

States and Canada.<br />
