Bachelor of Arts<br />
in International<br />
Studies<br />
The Bachelor of Arts major in International Studies (IS) is a comprehensive<br />
inter-disciplinary program that provides students with the global<br />
perspectives, theories and tools to understand historical and contemporary<br />
political, economic, social and cultural changes affecting the country, Asian<br />
region and the world.<br />
It is designed to hone the students’ knowledge and skills in negotiating<br />
through the complex of national, regional and global processes and issues<br />
with a strong base in critical international relations (interplay of states and<br />
markets) and diplomacy. It leads to professional careers in diplomatic and<br />
consular affairs as well as employment in government, inter-governmental<br />
and international development agencies. Moreover, it allows students to<br />
pursue further studies in law, economics, international development and<br />
public policy.<br />
Two specialized tracks comprise the degree.<br />
1. The International Politics (ISI) track combined with a Minor in Peace<br />
Studies is focused on the analysis of the shifting power dynamic and<br />
geopolitics of the international community as well as of the global and<br />
regional institutions and mechanisms arising from these. The track<br />
primarily concerns issues of peace and human security, war and conflict<br />
as well as inter-dependence among state and non-state actors, combined<br />
with skills building in peace education, conflict resolution and mediation.<br />
2. The Development Studies (ISD) track combined with a Minor in Gender<br />
Studies is focused on the analysis of and responses to (1) persistent , social<br />
and economic problems in developing countries and (2) emerging global<br />
issues, as well as of the global and regional institutions and mechanisms<br />
arising from these. . The track primarily concerns issues of poverty,<br />
human well-being, development planning, management and finance<br />
and has a special focus on gender analysis and integration in poverty<br />
responses and development processes.<br />

1. The program follows the institutional CQPA retention for admission<br />
and retention.<br />
2. The program requires six units of Foreign Language.<br />
3. The program requires six units of Group Thesis.<br />
4. The program requires three units of Summer Practicum or<br />
International Exchange Program.<br />
