ARTH-101 Introduction to Theater Arts (3 units)<br />

The course begins with theories on basic practices in performance.<br />

The students will be introduced to different theater spaces in various<br />

traditions. An appreciation of the different performances in the media<br />

will also be explored. This course is designed to help students develop<br />

an appreciation of the art form by understanding the relationship of theater<br />

to society and diverse cultures. Students become familiar with components<br />

of stage art including play-writing, acting, directing, and design through<br />

practical experiences and viewing of live productions and films. Students will<br />

be prepared for greater enjoyment of theater by developing a more critical eye<br />

for the many facets of the art form.<br />

ARTH-102 Introduction to Dance/Movement (3 units)<br />

This course provides an overview of the concept of movement in space<br />

in the specific field of dance. It intends to introduce students to the<br />

interdisciplinary study of movement and dance through the framework<br />

of the performing arts. It will look into the various theories surrounding<br />

the beginnings and evolution of this art field and familiarize students with<br />

the various genre of dance in modern times.<br />

ARTH-103 Introduction to Music (3 units)<br />

This course will examine some basic questions about how music is<br />

constructed technically as well as how musical practices can shape the<br />

students’ understanding of themselves and the dynamics of the music culture.<br />

The course will survey a wide range of musical examples, Western and<br />

Non‐western, ancient and contemporary, often drawing on musical contexts<br />

that are new to the students and at other times using examples from musical<br />

forms common in contemporary mass media.<br />
