1 Introduction
What Is the LSU
Maytag?
Schlumberger’s Laundry Single Unit Maytag (LSU/MT) (Figure
1-1) is an integrated processor board and Smart Card
reader for individual laundry units (washers or dryers). The
LSU Maytag provides the following features:
• Group codes with discounting.
• Normal and top-off pricing.
• Time-of-day discounting.
• Manual setup mode.
• Totals data
The LSU/MT uses a Maytag protocol for communications with
the laundry unit. Display and keypad functions are provided by
the laundry machine.
Activation of the LSU Maytag is initiated by smart cards. When
a properly encoded card is inserted into the LSU Maytag, laundry
machine access is permitted.
Group Codes
Group Codes are sometimes referred to as Site Codes or
FACs (Facility Access Codes). These are unique four-digit
codes assigned to your vending site by Schlumberger. Depending
on the specific requirements of your site, you may be
assigned as many as 32 of these codes.
Each vend card used at your site must use one of the Group
Codes. All card-accepting Schlumberger equipment must also
be programmed with one or more of these codes. When a
smart card is inserted, the Group Code on the card is compared
to the list of Group Codes stored in LSU/MT memory. If
the code on the card does not match one of the codes in memory,
machine use is not permitted.
Group Codes serve two purposes:
Access Control Group Codes prevent cards from other vending
sites from being used in equipment at your site. They also
allow you to control which groups of users will have access to
certain pieces of equipment.
For instance, the owner of several buildings may want to restrict
the tenants of Building A to the use of laundry equipment
in their own building. To do this, the administrator assigns one
Group Code to Building A. The tenants of Building A receive
cards encoded only with this Group Code. The administrator
then sets up the LSU Maytag so that the only Group Code
stored by that unit is the Building A Group Code. Consequently,
anyone from another building inserting a card with a
different Group Code would be turned away.
Variable Vend Pricing Group Codes can also be used as a
basis for charging different equipment usage fees to different
groups of users.
1-2 What Is the LSU Maytag? Introduction

LSU Maytag
User's Guide - Rev. A
About the Smart
Cards Used with
LSU/MT
Two types of cards are used with the LSU Maytag: administrator
cards and user cards.
Administrator Cards
Administrator cards permit access to the LSU Maytag’s software
setup and maintenance routines. Four kinds of administrator
cards are used: a Setup Card, aManual Mode Card, a
View Totals Card, and a Collection Card.

We suggest that you keep two sets of administrator cards on
hand. If a card is ever lost or damaged, you’ll have a replacement
card to begin using immediately.
Setup Card The Setup Card permits rapid, convenient setup
of similar laundry units using a single card programmed via
Schlumberger’s RECAP software. The card’s Security ID
must match that of the installed LSU/MT.
Manual Mode Card The Manual Mode card permits access to
Maytag service routines. The card’s Security ID must match
that of the installed LSU/MT.
View Totals Card The View Totals Card allows you to display
the three non-resettable counters. The card’s Security ID must
match that of the installed LSU/MT.
Collection Card Two types of Collection cards are available.
The Summary Collection Card enables you to use a single
smart card to collect system activity information stored by 28
units at your site. A Detail Collection Card provides more thorough
data from 10 units. The collected information is then
transferred to RECAP at a central location.
Introduction About the Smart Cards Used with LSU/MT 1-3

User's Guide - Rev. A
LSU Maytag
User Cards
User cards permit access to the controlled laundry machines
using debit cards.
Debit Cards are encoded with a monetary value. As the card is
used, this value decreases. When the value becomes less than
the cost charged to start a machine, the LSU/MT disallows the
transaction.
4 Initialization and Software Setup
This chapter describes the procedures you must complete
to prepare the LSU Maytag for use:
• Initial Configuration (Setup Card)
• Manual Mode (Manual Setup Card)
In this section some display messages may be shown in the
following way:
This display should be interpreted as two alternating display
messages. In the example, “CARD” and “donE” are interchanging
messages.
Initial
Configuration
All LSU Maytag units require initial configuration before customer
use. Setup Cards are created with Schlumberger’s
RECAP software. All LSU/MT parameters are preset in this
way.
One card should be made for each type of laundry unit to be
configured.
Note
The LSU/MT real-time clock receives day of week, hour and
minute information from the Maytag laundry machine controller.
Time information is required for Time of Day discounting.
Note
You must use a Setup Card (see the previous section - Using a
Setup Card) for initial configuration. Attempting to configure the
LSU Maytag with a Manual Setup Card before the initial configuration
will result in a SECURITY FAILURE error message. This
indicates that the Security ID in the LSU Maytag does not match
the Security ID on the Manual Setup Card.
A Manual Setup Card is used to access Maytag service routines
(Manual Setup Mode). Maytag service routines and setup
procedures are listed in the Commercial Washer/Dryer Operating
Instructions supplied with the laundry machine.
The initial configuration performed with the Setup card is sufficient
to put the laundry machine into use.
