PowerDress
In the current sea of forgettable pop stars, few have got what it takes to
show that they’re a cut above the rest. Exciting new talent PowerDress,
however, has enough pedigree, talent and charisma to mark her out as
one of the most exciting upcoming talents in the game. Courted for
songs by the likes of Lana Del Rey and coming across like a one-woman
version of Hurts, she’s seriously hot property.
Also known as Penny F, her impressive song-writing credits include Del
Rey’s stunning 'National Anthem', Rui Da Silva’s 'New Lover' (a Pete
Tong Essential New Tune, no less) and songs for the legendary Arthur
Baker. A former Brit School student with a degree in Pop Music Vocals
from the Academy of Contemporary Music, she’s finally taking her turn
to step into the spotlight and show what she is capable of. Based in
London, her voice packs a serious punch, full of vigour and emotion yet
never strained or unnecessarily over-the-top.
PowerDress' debut single 'Torture', is produced by Elrose aka Tom
Devos who is one half of DEVolution. Torture is an incredibly catchy
slice of sun-drenched pop-dance, dripping with bright, feel-good
synths and hard-grooving bass that perfectly compliment her powerful
and gracefully controlled vocals. Taking flavours from ‘80s pop and
‘90s dance and fusing them into a slick contemporary package, it’s one
of the most impressive debuts of the year and an enticing taste of her
forthcoming album (due for release in 2015).
Leanne Louise - Blood Hearts EP
www.leannelouise.com
I am always amazed by Leanne and here is her latest EP which is lovingly
set as a FREE release!
Mr Magician
A magical and mystical tone, pumped up with an upbeat tempo. Catchy
lyrics, the sounds perfectly match this track and atmosphere intended.
This is a piece that you could hear in a fantasy movie just when the
action is building up and emotions are soaring.
Running
Glass House part two, kicks off straight away with an intriguing rural
tone. A darker yet compelling atmosphere accompanies Leanne's sweet
voice. The break is a moment of genius, drawing in your attention,
making you feel the emotions portrayed.
Blood Hearts
A swaying rhythm, deep vocals with a lovely piano backdrop. Rising with
pure heartfelt passion. Gorgeous tones complimenting the vocals with
small touches of cymbals for extra effect.
Oxide and Neutrino - Marimba
“Ashea presents a brand new track to be released December 14th. The original with
urban preppy attitude on the beats accompanying the sexy vocals. A TS7 edit gives a
whole new feeling with bumpy beats and a lighthearted vibrant melody with choppy
cuts. Other remixes included by Wideboys, TS7, Lynx & Deepmilo” Mizz Ruby
‘We like to introduce you to brand new artists who we think are pretty much
amazeballs, ladies and gents say hello to Ashea’ Maximum Pop
‘Definitely one to watch in 2015’ Popshock
‘Ready to take on the world with her unique sound’ Female First
Let You Go is the long awaited follow up to Ashea’s debut single ‘Whatcha Thinkin’
(featured on Clubland, Chartshow Dance & Vevo). Co-produced by Ashea and Red
Triangle (One Direction, The Saturdays, Cheryl Cole, Ashley Roberts) and written by
the multi-talented singer herself, Let You Go features an A list remix package from
Wideboys (Kiss FM), TS7 (Kiss Fresh, 1xtra), Lynx (Hospital Records) & Deepmilo
(Chartshow).
Ashea (described as Gwen Stefani meets Nelly Furtado) was born in the seaside town
of Hastings to a family of singers & performers. Ashea worked with RAab Stevenson
vocal coach of Rihanna and Justin Timberlake and was given career advice by pop
legend Kelly Rowland during her sessions. With her performance skills honed, Ashea
returned to Europe to learn music production. The Let You Go video was directed by
up and coming talent Konstantin Ermakov who worked with Ashea to bring to life her
original concept.
‘Let You Go´ is about how experiences shape who we become, especially first
experiences, which we rarely forget and which hold a place deep in our hearts and
minds. I chose to shoot the video in a school environment as this is where most of us
experience a lot of things for the first time. In the video I break into the head teacher´s
office and find some keys, I then go with my friends and start dancing in the gym,
surrounded by lights. I like to think that this signifies how, breaking the rules can
sometimes be a good thing, and you may just find the key to where you want to be. I
believe it´s important to surround ourselves with people that make us happy, things
that we love doing, and go to places that inspire us… So essentially the meaning of the
story is ¨Go do what you love, push boundaries, live how you want to live, have
amazing experiences which you´ll want to never let go of…’ Ashea
Knuckle Touch
It was only a few weeks ago when I was given the “All Aboard” to
join the fantastic four that makes up Audiation Magazine. After
reading a couple issues and seeing that there is a high majority
of dance and house music included in the magazine, (both
genres I am completely unfamiliar with), I started to do my own
research. Figures. Not only is the place that I was born and raised
the home to jazz and blues, but it curated a little thing known as
house music. Chicago, man…full of surprises.
Frankie Knuckles was the first disc jockey to start spinning
synthesized music with pop and disco at The Warehouse, a
dance club in Chicago. That is where the name ‘house’ music
came from. The Godfather of House Music was at Warehouse
for five years, until he opened his own club in Chicago called the
Power Plant in 1982. He then turned to break into the UK in
Delirium where Chicago house artists were in high demand.
Alright now, reading research about this guy can really only tell
me so much. Wanting to listen to the style of his remixes and
what gives him the title “Godfather of House Music,” I dug
deeper. Here are my favorite tracks of his.
Your Love
Tears
Baby I
Rain Falls
12
www.AudiationMagazine.com

Upon further research of Knuckles, I came across some of his favorite tracks
which are listed below for a highly recommended listen.
Colonel Abrams - Trapped
Sharon Redd - Can You Handle It
Fat Larry’s Band - Act Like You Know
Positive Force - You Got the Funk
Jimmy Bo Horn - Spank
D-Train - You’re the One For Me
The beats. The sound of overlapped electronic drum, effects and reverb
vocals. The sound that sparks dance moves you probably didn’t even know
existed. This is all due to an experiment in music to create a positive and
upbeat dance vibe in a club that was originally only exclusive to black, gay
men. Even though he was taken too soon, just earlier this year, Frankie
Knuckles’ mark on the world is legendary.
It’s a strange feeling finding out that I grew up in a place that has left such an
impact on the world. Especially since I am always searching for new music.
House music is a very unique genre that will continue to reinvent existing or
non-existing tunes. So, sending a fist-bump to Frankie Knuckles, for leaving
the door open for future legends to come about and bringing the
atmosphere that takes over the night life.
Ooberfuse - Fall
www.helpforheroes.org.uk | www.ooberfuse.com
Horus Music. All profits donated to Help For Heroes.
To mark the centenary of the start of the First World War, London band ooberfuse, along
with Help for Heroes and Strictly Come Dancing’s Chelsee Healey, release a moving
musical tribute to fallen war heroes. FALL, inspired by the selfless sacrifice of millions of
soldiers around the world, explores the emotional impact of the horror of war not just on
front-line soldiers but also on those left behind on the domestic front.
Cherrie Anderson, front woman of the band, explains: “We were honoured to work with
Chelsee Healey of Waterloo Road / Strictly Come Dancing in the song’s video. Chelsee
movingly portrays the wife of a soldier who has to cope with the emotional trauma of
saying farewell to her hero, uncertain whether she will ever see him again. In FALL, we
chose to explore the emotional impact of war not just on the soldiers fighting on the front
line but on those left behind struggling to come to terms with the long-lasting absence of
loved ones. Help for Heroes does incredible work helping servicemen and women and their
loved ones fight against the long-lasting physical and emotional impacts of war. A hundred
years on from the start of the First World War we hope our song provides an alternative
soundtrack to the centenary commemorations.”
Bryn Parry, CEO and Co-Founder of Help for Heroes says: “Help for Heroes is all about
‘doing your bit’ for our wounded. The money raised by FALL will be used to provide
practical and direct support to those who have become wounded, injured or sick in service.
The war in Afghanistan may be nearly over but for many memers of the Armed Forces and
their families, the battles are just beginning and we won't let them battle alone. This year’s
anniversary events for WW1 and D-Day remind us how important this is and the shared
respect between the veterans of all generations. On behalf of everyone who will benefit
from your support, thank you.”
Hal St John from the band adds: “By remembering them, we dignify the sufferings and
death of the soldiers who fell in battle 100 years ago, defending the freedoms we now take
for granted…the present moment floods to life with an all too easily forgettable meaning.
Staring at the poppy blankets stretched out across the killing fields it is impossible to
allow the fatalism and despair eating away at the modern soul to take a hold. We owe it to
those who went before us not to let go of hope for the future…so much blood spilt by
nameless unknown soldiers so that we may live in freedom. We must not, through our
forgetfulness, rob their sacrifice of its enduring value. FALL resurrects the dangerous
memory of those who have fallen in battle encouraging us to resist the triumphalism of
the victorious.”
26
Tom Sands of Substantial Films, who directed the video for FALL shares his thoughts:
"When I first heard the song, I found it very moving. The pace of the song also suggested to
me a different approach from the fast cutting and frenetic storytelling we see so much of.
Taking these two elements I decided to try and create a filmic narrative that would
communicate the heartfelt emotion in the song. It struck me that while we often see the
perspective of a soldier at war, we much less often see who he may have left behind. By
using imagery that highlighted both the similarities in the screen couple's lives, but the
huge gap in experience, I hope to make people consider the more far-reaching implications
of war."
"A gorgeous relaxed atmosphere. Subtle beats and intriguing melodies with slight
creative touches. Home Doesn't Exist Anymore is my favourite of this EP having a
fragmented structure and subtle elements of jazz and bass." Mizz Ruby
Slime welcomes Spanish producer BKWSK to the label. The Sevillian joins a rich
pedigree of inventive artists from his mother country at the label, the home of BSN
Posse, Clima and Manul. Carving a unique space for himself in the hinterland between
house, garage and bass music, his production style is both playful and melancholy.
‘Dystopian Heat Wave’ rolls in on a hazy bed of languid chords and spaced-out
percussion. Slowly, the hypnotic groove unfolds into a beautiful house rhythm,
replete with warm kicks and an undulating bassline. The track mutates into multiple
shapes throughout its running time, keeping your mind and feet entertained in equal
measure.
‘Hold My Mind’ toughens up the beat of the former and adds some well-known soulful
vocals and rippling bass for a classic late-night warehouse jacker. Softly teased keys
and atmospheric FX entwine the track to add rich texture to proceedings.
‘Home Doesn’t Exist Anymore’ wraps a two-step rhythm around a stuttering house
beat and cavernous bassline with devastating results. Jittering melodies collide inside
the ride, enveloping the track and pushing it far out of its original structure, then back
again.
‘Dance Dance We’re Dead’ harks back to the golden era of rave with a breakbeat
rhythm and jazzy undertones. Staccato keys and horns interject between the
relentless bassline as the groove escalates the sense of beautiful urgency throughout
the track.
Breach
Singer, songwriter, DJ, producer and all-round music genius Ben
Westbeech aka Breach has come along way since releasing his 1st record
“So Good Today” back in 2006. The talented musician, and I say musician
as he is skilled in the playing the cello and the piano, has accumulated
numerous records sales throughout a career spanning close to 10 years.
With hits like ‘Fatherless’, “Something for the weekend” and arguably what
can be described as the biggest dance track of 2013 with “Jack” it’s comes
as no surprise to hear he’s sells out venues across the country. Breach is
often found on line ups with stellar acts such a s Catz n Dogs, Cinnaman,
and prior to his gig, Audiation magazine managed to catch up with Ben at
his studio in Amsterdam, his current city of residence.
What is your musical background history, how did you get into the industry?
I started DJ'in at 12, started making music when I was 18, moved to Bristol
when I was 19 and made my 1st record there. I got into it through a guy called
Giles Peterson and he signed my 1st record. I just have a friend a demo and she
said a friend she can play it to. Then about a week later I got a phone call from
her saying Giles has heard it and wants to sign it. So it was just like wicked. But
I'd sorta made a lotta music in Bristol for like 5 years just grinding it out.
What's your preferred tools for producing music?
I use Cubase as my main door but then I use Reason and Abelton like as
samplers. Then I've got a lot of hardware, like I use SSL 4000 Channel Strip,
vintage ones, Neve Preamps, Imperial Labs Fatso, SSL BUS Compressor C2,
Steven Slate Audio Dragon and LA-2A.
What inspires you to make new music and where do you draw your influences
from?
At the moment just Amsterdam really. I moved here like a year and a half ago.
It's just a really inspiring place to live. Creatively, it just feels right creating here
at the moment. The house and techno scene is really diverse and forward
thinking and it's not really separatist like you get in some places. It's really open
and everybody has really good knowledge and you get to hear a lot of
interesting records.
How did the name Breach as a stage name come about?
That came about from I guess from With Fatherless as the 1st track I made as
Breach. It came from merging two styles like House and Dubstep as it was at
the time. i used to draw from stuff that I'd heard down at Forward. I didn't even
make dubstep and never really got that deep into it but I'd go down to Plastic
People and just catch a vibe. Then I'd go to the studio round the corner in Brick
Lane. It was sort of taking some sounds that I was getting influenced by and
making it more House. So it was like breaching the styles.
You’ve been around in the game for a little while now, but the release of jack
without doubt brought you untold success, what’s the story behind the track
and how did it change things?
The story behind it, it started as a B-Side that I was doing on Dirtybird. I made
one track and Claude Von Stroke said he really liked the one track and then he
was like let's do something a bit sleazier. Then I went to bed and woke up with
the thing in my head. I just sand it into my phone then went down the studio
and recorded it. It was on my computer for a few days then I just went in. It
only took a few hours really but the mixing down took a bit longer. It was the B
Side for Let's Get Hot, and then it just went crazy.
31

Was it released initially as a B Side?
No we had made it the A Side by that point because the reaction on the dance floor was
really good, so we knew it was a good tune. Then it came out, I think it'd been out for 2
months then Atlantic signed it, licensed it then re-put it out. Then it changed and
brought me a lot of success. It was strange, quite weird, it thrust me into a world that I'd
never imagined Breach going. It was basically a thing so I could DJ records I really like
playing. That's the reason I started making music as Breach. It's made it quite mad, been a
mad journey. It's been good though and I'm just looking forward to carrying on.
The EP release on Will Saul’s AUS label, how did that come about?
I've been friends with Will for years and really like AUS as a label. I play a lot of similar stuff
and with my label, I guess put it out. You know similar sort of artist that are on AUS and
Will just approached me and asked if I wanted to make a record.
Naked Naked was launched in 2012, what inspired the idea for the label and the name?
I dunno, I just wanted a record label. I was getting sent loads of demos and a couple of
them I really believed. in. I just wanted to put my own music out and other peoples'. It
started really nicely and quite slowly, we're on our 10th release in January, it's building
and building. I'm signing new artists, I can do little collaborations with people then put
them out. It's really nice thing to do. Then also you can build other peoples' careers,
Lorca and this guy Vis from Leeds who is dope. If I take people on I tend to work with
them and help them out.
Like a mentor?
Yea, kind of, I'd fly them over here and we'll get the stems, put it through the hardware
and just mix it down a little better. They're not just starting out but even after years I'm
still learning stuff. You can push people and get different results out of them. At the end
of the day it's still their track and they have to be completely happy. You know there's
some things I can do they'll be like “I'm not into that” and then you'll have to put back
what I've done on it or whatever, just work with them really. It's interesting because you
learn off other people. I learn off them as much as hey learn off me. Because everybody
has something different to bring to creating and production.
How would you describe the music ethos of Naked Naked?
Emo House that's what I call it! I like House and Techno that is quite dancefloor. I go for
music that has emotion chords in it. Something happens somewhere that just gets you.
It's gotta have some feeling to it.
What’s next for Naked Naked?
We have the new Lorca EP that's out next month called Calcatech, and then you've got
me and Cinnaman have a release, the 10th release called Liberty and the B-Side is
Avocado. I'm really excited about that one. He's like one of my best friends here. He's
Dutch and a big person out here in the Dutch House & Techno scene. He's resident at
Trow, he has a studio next door. We've wanted to make music together for ages and it
was really nice to be able to get to do that with one of your mates, then it came out
really good. Release date is January 12th.
ROKURO
So much good music around this month it’s hard to know where to
start, but kicking off this month with two remixes from one of my
favorite producers, Oliver Nelson Tobtok ft Emil Hero - Higher
(Oliver Nelson & Skogsra Remix). A mid tempo funk track this one,
gorgeous synth stabs and laid back funk groove, with Daft Punk
style vocoder and a tasty vocal by male singer Emil Hero. LISTEN
Second remix by Oliver and probably my favourite track at the
moment is The Kooks- Forgive & Forget (Oliver Nelson Remix). The
funk groove Oliver gets on this is incredible, funky guitar and piano
disco magic, great vocal by the Kooks on this too, fantastic track.
Another couple of excellent remixes to track down is by the
extremely talented duo from, Maastricht, Netherlands, Lucas &
Steve. First Up is there Sick Individuals - Wasting Moonlight (Lucas
& Steve Remix). Great up-tempo stabby baseline and piano groove
on this, lovely vocal breakdown.
Next up is the massive Watermat- Bullit (Lucas & Steve Remix) this
is in a similar vain as the previous one, excellent groovy baseline,
pitch down vocals and slamming house beat. These guys are quickly
becoming a major force to be reckoned with in the future house
scene. Also if you haven’t checked their huge Beatport smash,
Roughneck- Everybody Wants To Be Somebody (L&S remix), i
suggest you do. I’ve been playing these guys records in my DJ sets
and they are right up there with getting the best crowd reactions of
the night. Roughneck is out now, Watermat and Sick individuals
remixes out soon.
Another fantastic producer doing great things at the moment Robin
Schulz. This time he turns his hand to remixing David Guetta and
Sam Martins - Dangerous, this is a gorgeous string orchestra
masterpiece. Lovely piano licks and deep throbbing baseline,
excellent track!
After the success of their killer track Sleepless, Cassette are back with
another fantastic track, Blind Heart. Old school soulful female vocal,
gorgeous reverse pianos, with a fantastic future house baseline drop.
Definitely one of my favourites at the moment. You will have to track it
down, as it’s not on Soundcloud yet.
Taking us away from his normal signature sound is the Oliver Heldens
remix of Tiesto ft DBX Light Years Away. This is so far removed from
Oliver’s sound, but a welcomed relief. It’s a much lighter piano driven
house track, with a great bouncy vibe and groove. Great tune, this one.
Track it down.
Probably my favourite label at the moment is Enormous Tunes. These
guys are releasing some incredible house/deep and nu disco sounds at
the moment. First up is Vintage Culture, Airstrip & Torha- Sure Thing
feat Ashibah (Matvey Emerson Remix), phew that was a bit of a
mouthful! Lovely bouncy funky deep disco vibe to this, awesome
progressive style chord stabs and sultry airy vocals from Torha, a
seriously addictive track.
Another total class effort on Enormous Tunes is the delectable
Searching For Love by Sons of Maria.. this track oozes class Sax riffs,
guitar licks, full orchestra, and a gorgeous vocal…this track has it all,
and is part of there new Luna park Ep which is out now. Check the link,
you won’t be disappointed.
Also a very fine track on the same label is Don’t Look Now ft Tom Tyler –
Feels Like. It’s a catchy male vocal belter. I’m liking the Calippo remix,
but the original is great, too.
Last but not least on Enormous Tunes is the seriously deep funk EP, By
Cedric Zeyenne, called Over Gain. Acoustic guitars make way for 80’s
chords and a funky deep house bass. Could see this being played in a
club and perfect for chilling at home too. It comes with a "Mart Remix”
the remix takes the track into a slightly more nu disco vein, slightly
more up-tempo and funky too. I love the vocal on this, very suductive,
awesome!
Sascha Kloeber is back with a lush deep mix of sticks and stones,
really nice chilled laid back vibe to this, cool vocal too , check it out.
Along the same kind lines is the deep and moody new track by Chris
Malinchak, Vocals courtesy of the awesome MNEK, very nice piano
and bass track.
Patrick Hagenaar - Come Closer, nice funky deep/disco vibe to this,
nice deep throbbing baseline, pitched vocal stabs, and stabyy piano’s.
Dusky is back with an old school style piano led track, Yoohoo,
released on 17steps in November.
Nifty little track I found this month is “ What Love is” by Bellatrax ft
Sophia May. Coming out soon on the ever reliable Kontor label, nice
up-tempo piano house track this one, great music great vocals.
Really loving the ‘Lover Like You” track on the Gorgon City- Sirens
Album, one of my favourite singers, and great to hear her on house
and deep house tracks, the one and only Katy B…top tune.
Also please check out the new EP from Tube and Berger. Entourage EP,
great EP with my personal favourite being the track they did with Paji
called - Reliquia.. Top quality stuff.
The month wouldn’t be complete without a Spinnin Deep house
track, and this one does not disappoint. A lovely up-tempo disco vibe
to this. I’m loving the amount of tracks coming out with funky guitars
and disco style string stabs at the moment. “My Heart” by Smith and
Weston
You can also check all my latest remixes on my soundcloud. I recently
remixed Jessie j - Burning Up, Tinashe - Feels Like Vegas, Jessie J -
Personal and Adele - You Will Never See Me Again.
I’ve also remixed the latest Jennifer Hudson track ‘It’s Your World
Feel free to check it out and give me a vote if you like it!
I’m also excited to announce my new project with Audation
Magazine’s very own The Sassy Yank. It is a a production company
called ‘Across The Pond’ and we are currently lining up to produce for
some world class singers.
Matt Craig - Filthy Bootz
Matthew Craig
Matthew Craig aka Matty.B started off DJing at
14 years of age in his bedroom. He then went on
to start professionally DJing in Bars & Clubs at
the young age of 16, playing all main & sub
genres of House, Garage & Oldskool. He is very
well known in his home town of Huddersfield for
his House, Garage & Bass influenced sets. Which
to this day still see’s a local following still going
strong from event to event. Matthew has also
become a well known DJ in and around all of
Yorkshire, performing at some of the North’s
biggest clubbing events for brands such as:
Sleepin Is Cheatin, Hectik, Twilite,
Movement,FearFest, SpringFest & more.
Urban Sprawl
Founder Gavin Dista "I'm running an oldschool
'98 style Speed Garage label from up north in
Sheffield. The Double 99, Gunman, bass heavy
stuff was a big thing up here in the late 90s and
never really went away, growing into Bassline
House and 4x4. However it got too moody and
dark - and in around 2007, everything got shut
down because of trouble in the clubs. It's a
recurring problem that the Garage scene has
always had, imploding on itself every few years,
and reinventing itself as a consequence.
However, For me, the golden era of bass heavy,
warping speed garage was too short and could
have been explored more - so that's what I'm
trying to do with the label - recreating and
reinventing the original '98 sound pioneered by
the likes of Jeremy Sylvester, Todd Terry and
Armand Van Heldon. We started off with 7
members but the idea of reforming Speed
Garage was so popular it soon became a class
on new and old talent, as well as some pioneers
of the sound, all working together to reinstate
the sound.”
