Evaluation and assessment of Uruguayan Forest Certification scheme against the requirements of the PEFC Council
forest practices to maintain the
capacity of soils.
3.2 d The Standard requires the planning
construction and maintenance of
infrastructure to achieve Sustainable
Forest Management.
5.2.4 Criterion 4 – Maintenance, Conservation and Appropriate Enhancement
of Biological Diversity in Forest Ecosystems
PEOLG
Criterion
Evidence Reference Assessment
4.1 Guidelines for forest management planning
4.1 a The Standard requires management
planning to maintain and enhance
biodiversity at ecosystem, species and
genetic level, and where appropriate
at landscape level.
4.1 b The Standard requires forest
management planning to incorporate
terrestrial inventory and mapping of
national ecosystems and species and
their condition and importance, using
published and in-situ resources.
4.2 Guidelines for forest management practices
4.2 a The Standard relates to plantation
management. The Standard requires
the use of species and varieties
appropriate to site with an evaluation
of the impact of species (variety) on
the ecosystems and genetic integrity of
native species.
4.2 b The Standard requires an account, for
each site, of the origins of species (and
varieties) with goal of identifying
appropriate species as well as “the
impact on the ecosystems and genetic
integrity of the native species and
local origins”.
4.2 c The Standard requires forest
management practices to increase the
genetic, species and structural
diversity of natural ecosystems.
4.2 d The Standard requires that the
traditional management systems and
knowledge associated with the use of
forests by local communities and other
interested parties must be considered
and respected in forest management
practices. Also the Standard requires
the tracking of level of wood and nonwood
resources produced from forest
to demonstrate the maintenance and
improvement of socio-economic
