VISUAL DESIGN<br />
Overview<br />
Two units for each of <strong>the</strong> Preliminary and <strong>HSC</strong> Year Content Endorsed<br />
Course (CEC).<br />
Visual Design is run as a 2 unit Content Endorsed Course for students with<br />
an interest in Visual Design forms. The course offers opportunities for <strong>the</strong><br />
student to investigate one or more of <strong>the</strong>se fields and to develop<br />
understanding and skills that contribute to an informed critical practice.<br />
Visual Design acknowledges that traditionally accepted boundaries of Visual<br />
Design are changing as a consequence of <strong>the</strong> widespread use of digital<br />
technologies and technological innovation.<br />
Content<br />
The course structure allows for modules to be selected in a way that<br />
acknowledges and builds on students’ knowledge, understanding and skills<br />
and provides for fur<strong>the</strong>r and more in-depth study in one or more of <strong>the</strong>se<br />
fields.<br />
Optional Modules in Visual Design include<br />
• Graphic Design<br />
• Wearable Design<br />
• Product Design<br />
• Interior/Exterior Design<br />
• Individual/Collaborative Design Project<br />
This course in Visual Design is designed to enable students to:<br />
• Gain an increasing accomplishment and independence in <strong>the</strong>ir<br />
representation of ideas<br />
• to understand and value how <strong>the</strong>se fields of practice invite different<br />
interpretations and explanations.<br />
Students will develop:<br />
• Knowledge, skills and understanding, through <strong>the</strong> making of graphic<br />
designs and/or wearable design and/or product design and/or<br />
interior/exterior design, which lead to and demonstrate conceptual<br />
and technical accomplishment.<br />
Special<br />
Requirements<br />
• exclusions: Visual Design works developed in full or part for Visual<br />
Design cannot be used for assessment in Visual Arts.<br />
Special Notes: This course does not contribute to <strong>the</strong> ATAR Calculation.<br />
Cost: A fee of $190.00 will be charged in 2012.<br />
Excursions: There is one excursion to a gallery or museum.. A fur<strong>the</strong>r<br />
charge will apply.<br />
Equipment: Students will need an A3 Visual Design Folder with plastic<br />
sleeves to act as <strong>the</strong>ir portfolio, and a portable storage device to store<br />
digital photos and video clips 4GB minimum is recommended .<br />
Assessment /<br />
Homework<br />
<strong>Information</strong><br />
Assessment - 70% Practical and 30% Theory<br />
Students will complete a range of assessment tasks in this course including<br />
practical assessments and research activities.<br />
