Business Studies<br />

Overview<br />

Two units for each of <strong>the</strong> Preliminary and <strong>HSC</strong> Year Board Developed Course.<br />

Business Studies investigates <strong>the</strong> role, operation and management of businesses<br />

within our society. Factors in <strong>the</strong> establishment, operation and management of a<br />

small business are integral to this course. It fosters intellectual, social and moral<br />

development by assisting students to think critically <strong>about</strong> <strong>the</strong> role of business and<br />

its ethical responsibilities to society. Students develop research and independent<br />

learning skills in addition to analytical and problem-solving competencies through<br />

<strong>the</strong>ir studies.<br />

Requirements<br />

In <strong>the</strong> Preliminary course <strong>the</strong>re is a research project investigating <strong>the</strong> operation of a<br />

small business or planning <strong>the</strong> establishment of a small business. Students will need<br />

to develop an understanding of writing business reports using <strong>the</strong> language of <strong>the</strong><br />

course.<br />

Homework<br />

<strong>Information</strong><br />

Assessment consists of:-<br />

Tests and internal exams, Research and analysis of case studies, Stimulus based<br />

skills.<br />

Homework is dominated by revision and thoroughly learning <strong>the</strong> terminology of <strong>the</strong><br />

course.<br />
