Sport Lifestyle and Recreation<br />
Overview<br />
SLR is an ideal subject for those senior students not wishing to obtain an ATAR<br />
allowing University entry.<br />
Students will learn <strong>about</strong> <strong>the</strong> importance of a healthy lifestyle and recognise <strong>the</strong><br />
need to be active, responsible and informed decision makers.<br />
This course encourages students to continue to develop <strong>the</strong>ir knowledge, skills and<br />
understanding of <strong>the</strong> role of sport, a healthy lifestyle and recreation in everyday life.<br />
Content<br />
The course aims to:<br />
• Develop in students an awareness of social and community values in <strong>the</strong><br />
areas of sport, lifestyle and recreation;<br />
• Promote an understanding of <strong>the</strong> requirements for healthy living;<br />
• Develop a deeper understanding of <strong>the</strong> interaction between society, sport,<br />
recreation and fitness;<br />
• Identify how sport influences and affects various groups and sections of<br />
our society;<br />
• Provide students with a greater understanding of <strong>the</strong>ir physical and<br />
sporting potential.<br />
Sport, Lifestyle and Recreation Studies enables students to build upon <strong>the</strong>ir<br />
learning in Years K-10 PDHPE, it focuses on those aspects of learning that relate<br />
most closely to participation in sports and physical activity.<br />
It aims at developing <strong>the</strong> student’s knowledge, understanding and skills needed to<br />
adopt health-promoting lifestyles.<br />
The 'Sport, Lifestyle and Recreation Studies' program at <strong>Waverley</strong> <strong>College</strong> is an<br />
important element of <strong>the</strong> overall school curriculum as it encourages students to<br />
explore <strong>the</strong> role of sport, a healthy lifestyle and recreation in everyday life. Situated<br />
near Sydney's city beaches, many <strong>Waverley</strong> students have access to an<br />
environment which encourages an active lifestyle.<br />
The Course involves <strong>the</strong> study of <strong>the</strong> following Board developed modules. The<br />
