Entertainment Industry Curriculum Framework<br />

Overview<br />

Two units for each of <strong>the</strong> Preliminary and <strong>HSC</strong> Year Board Developed<br />

Course. Category B Subject.<br />

This course is for students who wish to work or are interested in <strong>the</strong><br />

Entertainment Industry. It is designed to enable students to acquire a<br />

range of technical, practical, personal and organisational skills valued both<br />

within and beyond <strong>the</strong> workplace. The purpose of <strong>the</strong> course is to provide<br />

students with <strong>the</strong> opportunity to develop basic knowledge and skills for live<br />

production, <strong>the</strong>atre and event industries. The course provides <strong>the</strong><br />

opportunity to gain an Australian Quality Training Framework (AQTF)<br />

accreditation within <strong>the</strong> NSW <strong>HSC</strong> VET curriculum framework.<br />

Qualifications:<br />

AQF Certificate II in Live Production; Theatre and Events CUE 20103<br />

<strong>Information</strong><br />

The Preliminary Course at <strong>Waverley</strong> <strong>College</strong> includes:<br />

• Follow Health, Safety and Security Procedures<br />

• Provide First Aid<br />

• Handle Physical Elements safely during Bump In and Bump Out<br />

• Work with O<strong>the</strong>rs<br />

• Source and Apply Entertainment Industry Knowledge<br />

• Communicate in Workplace<br />

• Apply a General Knowledge of Lighting to Work Activities<br />

Students are expected to attend: 35 hours of work placement in <strong>the</strong><br />

Entertainment Industry; excursions to trade fairs such as Entech and<br />

backstage <strong>the</strong>atre tours to <strong>the</strong>atres in Sydney. Active participation in <strong>the</strong><br />

performance calendar of <strong>the</strong> Performing Arts Centre is also required.<br />

Competency Assessment<br />

This is a competency-based course. This requires students to develop <strong>the</strong><br />

competencies, skills and knowledge described by each unit of<br />

competency. A student must demonstrate to a qualified assessor that <strong>the</strong>y<br />

can effectively carry out <strong>the</strong> tasks listed to <strong>the</strong> standard required in <strong>the</strong><br />

Entertainment Industry.<br />

There is no mark awarded in competency-based assessment. Students<br />

are assessed as ei<strong>the</strong>r competent or not yet competent.<br />

Students will be progressively assessed as competent or not yet<br />

competent in individual units of work. When a student achieves a unit of<br />

competency it is signed off by <strong>the</strong> assessor in a student logbook.<br />

External Assessment – <strong>HSC</strong> Examination<br />

The <strong>HSC</strong> examination for Entertainment will involve a written examination<br />

made up of multiple-choice items, short answers and extended response<br />

items. The questions will be drawn from units of competency and <strong>HSC</strong><br />

requirements shown in <strong>the</strong> syllabus.<br />
