<strong>NACE</strong> began 1965 with a membership <strong>of</strong> 950 members, as a result <strong>of</strong> the Illinois County Highway<br />
Superintendents Association and the Province <strong>of</strong> Ontario County Engineers Association bringing<br />
in 100% <strong>of</strong> their members.<br />
1965 <strong>NACE</strong> Conference<br />
<strong>The</strong> Fifth <strong>NACE</strong> Management-Research Conference was held April 21-24, 1965, in Minneapolis,<br />
Minnesota. A <strong>NACE</strong> booklet entitled ‘What <strong>NACE</strong> Does”, listing the ten (10) guide manuals with<br />
a brief description <strong>of</strong> each, was distributed to the membership. A new committee was organized to<br />
compile a model Constitution and By-Laws for State County Engineers Associations.<br />
<strong>NACE</strong> created an annual Engineer <strong>of</strong> the Year Award. <strong>The</strong> award was divided into two categories,<br />
Rural and Urban, with an engineer to be selected for each category.<br />
<strong>The</strong> first Engineer <strong>of</strong> the Year Awards were presented to:<br />
Rural Engineer <strong>of</strong> the Year<br />
Urban Engineer <strong>of</strong> the Year<br />

John J. Leslie<br />
St. Louis County, Missouri<br />
In May, 1965, <strong>NACE</strong> participated in the fifth County Government Institute, sponsored by NACO<br />
in Indianapolis, Indiana, on the subject <strong>of</strong> the Board-Engineer Management System.<br />
1965 NACO Conference<br />
<strong>NACE</strong> participated in the NACO Annual Conference in San<br />
Diego, California, July 11-14, 1965. Discussion at the<br />
Committee and Association meetings centered around the past<br />
and the future <strong>of</strong> <strong>NACE</strong> <strong>NACE</strong> was informed that neither the<br />
BPR nor ASF could commit further funding at tha time <strong>The</strong><br />
NACI Research Committee decided to nvestigate several<br />
other sources <strong>of</strong> funding during the year, so that work could<br />
continue on the manuals and publications<br />
