July, 1966 to July, 1967<br />

<strong>The</strong> <strong>NACE</strong> Executive Board met with the Insurance Study Committee in special session September<br />

18-19. 1966. the at Lake Delton, Wisconsin, to discuss the insurance plan proposed by John Benson<br />

et. al. Discussions were held questioning the advisability <strong>of</strong> going into such a program without the<br />

approval and support <strong>of</strong> NACO. <strong>First</strong> Vice President, William D. McIntosh expressed his deep<br />

concern and read a letter from Past President Jack Lambie with the same thoughts. Bruce McClain,<br />

noted that California could not support <strong>NACE</strong> unless <strong>NACE</strong> had the support <strong>of</strong> NACO. It was<br />

generally accepted that <strong>NACE</strong>es efforts would be fruitless without the support <strong>of</strong> NACO. Later in<br />

the meeting the Board was joined by NACO Executive Director Bernie Hillenbrand and NACO<br />

President Ed Connor. Mr. Connor made comments as to the mutual interest <strong>of</strong> NACO and <strong>NACE</strong><br />

and said that NACO could not support <strong>NACE</strong>s proposed insurance program on the information that<br />

<strong>NACE</strong> has given to NACO.<br />

<strong>The</strong> Executive Board met the following day at which time<br />

they took action to drop the insurance plan and to notify<br />

NACO <strong>of</strong> that action.<br />

John Benson <strong>of</strong>fered his resignation as Director <strong>of</strong> the<br />

<strong>NACE</strong> Research Program effective October 1, 1966, and<br />

Howard Bussard was appointed acting Director.<br />

In January, 1967, <strong>NACE</strong> was informed that the EDA would<br />

approve a revised version <strong>of</strong> the proposed project to<br />

demonstrate the practicality <strong>of</strong> the <strong>NACE</strong> management<br />

publications.<br />

1967 <strong>NACE</strong> Conference<br />

<strong>The</strong> Seventh Annual <strong>NACE</strong> Management-Research<br />

Conference was held in Seattle. Washington. February 23-<br />

25 1967. <strong>The</strong> <strong>NACE</strong> Board <strong>of</strong> Directors approved a revision<br />

in the demonstration pro ect and a contract was eventually William G Harringron<br />

signed with FDA John Benson, Jr was appointed as a<br />

Consultant on the project and Howard Bussard was appointed Project Director. <strong>The</strong> four counties<br />

selected and approved were Utah County, Utah: Leflore County, Mississippi, Wayne and Orleans<br />

Counties, New York. <strong>The</strong> 18 month project began later in the year.<br />

1967 NACO Conference<br />

<strong>NACE</strong> participated in the Annual NACO Conference in Detroit, Michigan. July 29-August 2, 1967.<br />

during which they held a <strong>NACE</strong> Board meeting and a Business meeting.<br />
