In November, 1967, President McIntosh and<br />
Vice President Boccabella met with Bernie<br />
Hillenbrand, NACO Executive Director,<br />
who agreed to print the <strong>NACE</strong> directory<br />
which had been compiled by Dean Morgan<br />
<strong>of</strong> the Automotive Safety Foundation,<br />
distribute a <strong>NACE</strong> newsletter, and provide<br />
a complementary suite for the <strong>NACE</strong><br />
President during Annual NACO Meetings.<br />
ASF then agreed to assume the cost <strong>of</strong> mail<br />
handling and postage. Hillenbrand, with the<br />
backing <strong>of</strong> Frank Turner, Director <strong>of</strong> the<br />
Bureau <strong>of</strong> Public Roads, convinced the BPR<br />
to establish the <strong>NACE</strong> Board <strong>of</strong> Directors as<br />
its advisory group <strong>of</strong> County Engineers. In<br />
January, 1968, <strong>NACE</strong> published its first<br />
newsletter to the membership.<br />
1968 <strong>NACE</strong> Conference<br />

<strong>The</strong> Eighth Annual <strong>NACE</strong> Management-Research Conference was held in Des Moines, Iowa, on<br />
April 3-5, 1968, and drew the largest attendance <strong>of</strong> any previous Research Conference. Special<br />
recognition was given to Past Presidents <strong>of</strong> <strong>NACE</strong>. <strong>The</strong> Research Committee reported on a meeting<br />
they had with the Consultant and Director <strong>of</strong> the EDA project in Leflore County, Mississippi, where<br />
procedures that were to be used in all four demonstration counties were outlined.<br />
1968 NACO Conference<br />
SAGE parecipated in the Annual NACO Conference in Washington. D.C., July 28-31. 1968 <strong>The</strong><br />
presentation <strong>of</strong> the Engineer <strong>of</strong> <strong>The</strong> Year Awards was made during the SAGE Membership Business<br />
Meeting. <strong>The</strong> following recipients were duly honored:<br />
