CHAPTER XXI<br />

June, 1976 to July, 1977<br />

President, Gordon Hays, Jr.<br />

Highland County, Florida<br />

<strong>The</strong> new Board <strong>of</strong> Directors met for a breakfast meeting on June 29, 1976. in Salt Lake City, Utah.<br />

President Hays called the meeting to order, took care <strong>of</strong> routine business matters and announced<br />

some <strong>of</strong> his committee appointments. <strong>The</strong> Board engaged in an extended discussion about the<br />

locations <strong>of</strong> future Management-Research Conferences. <strong>The</strong> Board approved a motion renaming the<br />

spring conference “<strong>The</strong> <strong>NACE</strong> Transportation Management Conference’. <strong>The</strong> Board directed the<br />

Executive Committee to find a new installer <strong>of</strong> <strong>NACE</strong> <strong>of</strong>ficers before the next annual meeting.<br />

<strong>The</strong> Board met on November 16th in Birmingham, Alabama, in conjunction with a meeting <strong>of</strong> the<br />

AASHTO-<strong>NACE</strong>-NACo Joint Committee which was held on November 17th. President Hays<br />

announced that Past President (‘67) William D. McIntosh, Lassen County, California, would be the<br />

new installer <strong>of</strong> <strong>NACE</strong> <strong>of</strong>ficers.<br />

977 <strong>NACE</strong> Conference<br />

<strong>The</strong> Annual Spring <strong>NACE</strong> Transportation<br />

Management Conference was held in<br />

Phoenix, Arizona, February 9-11, 1977.<br />

<strong>The</strong> Board <strong>of</strong> Directors conducted a routine<br />

business meeting and there was excellent<br />

attendance at the technical sessions. Marian<br />

Hankerd gave a thorough and complete<br />

review <strong>of</strong> the status <strong>of</strong> NACoRF staff and<br />

grants.<br />

May 21, 1977, Milt Johnson testified before<br />

the Senate Subcommittee on Transportation<br />

in Ankeny, Iowa on “<strong>The</strong> Bridge<br />

Deficiency Problem”.<br />

<strong>NACE</strong> held a Board <strong>of</strong> Directors Meeting and the Annual Membership Business Meeting dunng the<br />

NACo Conference in Detroit, Michigan, July 24-27. 1977<br />
