Costumes play an important role in depicting the historical accuracy of a particular time in
history. Write down everything you noticed about the costumes in the series. Are some costumes

Many Black Loyalists, like Emily and Aminata, were issued certificates of freedom signed by
Brigadier General Samuel Birch. Black people, formerly enslaved or free, who could prove they
had served in the British Army for at least one year were given permission to leave America.
