• Because of the change in emphasis for different test series <strong>and</strong> be<br />

cause of differences between Nevada Tests <strong>and</strong> Pacific <strong>and</strong> Foreign Tests 9<br />

the<br />

• network has been subject to considerable change over the years. The majority<br />

of the data presented are for sampling stations which have had a continuous<br />

history since the end of 1952 when the first world-wide network was established.<br />

Some stations entering the network later, particularly those set up in coopera<br />

tion with the U, N. Scientific Committee on the Effects of Atomic Radiation,<br />

• are also included.<br />

Stations having data for only limited periods are not listed.<br />

These<br />

would include:<br />

1. Special stations operating for short periods of time around the two<br />

United States test sites.<br />

I_ 2. Certain stations operating in cooperation with the U. S. Public<br />

• Health Service.<br />

3. Other stations not forwarding samples on a continuous basis.<br />

• A map of the network is given in Figure 2, The stations operating<br />

• directly with HASL (Table 13) are distinguished from those operating through<br />

the United Nations Scientific Committee (Table 14)*<br />

Table 15 is made up of<br />

• the summary tables for all stations in order of station number.<br />

In all of the summary tables, composite samples are marked with a<br />

9 single asterisk (*). Where geographical interpolation was required to fill<br />

« out a table, the values are marked with a double asterisk (**).<br />
