pedestrian pathway with a central green zone in the middle. By adding to
the existing Völkl buildings, the authors have succeeded in creating a
convincing closure of the central green zone towards the south.
The two access ways in the east and west open up the area invitingly due
to their funnel-shaped design.
The planned reutilisation of the parking space on the ground floor is,
however, unconvincing. The uniformly remodelled façades of the Völkl
buildings require an overall concept that does not really correspond with
a diverse, fragmented utilisation. The residential quarter in the north
has sensibly aligned and organised buildings with floor plans that can be
used well and coherent access which also takes the existing topography
into consideration.
The authors allow for the existing orchard and network the footpaths
coherently along the former railway tracks.
This work enables a step-by-step introduction to the realisation and
gives the area a new image.

This work stands out through two strategically interesting approaches.
In the area under consideration, the existing stock is to be activated by
“hot spots” with the aim of encouraging and intensifying different kinds
of social activity. In the project area, the work devises different, segmented
elements that complement the existing stock, while also forming a
new spatially attractive quarter by being combined independently. Here,
the playful treatment of the elements is a strategy that not only promises
flexibility, but also represents an interesting artistic approach. Even
if one can accuse the design of having a certain arbitrariness, the urban
planning and conceptual charm of the work outweighs this.
PO 007 THE LUXURY OF EMPTINESS
This work is a good contribution towards the future reorganisation of the
northern town centre of Selb and creates new residential and leisure
space qualities. This applies to both the area under consideration, which
is to be transformed into an attractive town park that is a sustainable
element for the revaluation of living in the town centre and, at the same
time, provides an impulse for social activities.
The proposal for the project area qualitatively and appropriately provides
answers to the demographic development in Selb and takes into consideration
the increased demand for living in the old town which is suitable
for senior citizens.
LG 034 Tissue of lies
The approach this project takes of picking out the loop as a theme by
upgrading the existing and developing the new symbolic places along the
path is convincing and is met with acceptance. These intensifications in
the form of acupunctures activate the surrounding area and have the
potential to actively influence these.
The intellectual approach of releasing oneself from the plan and proposing
a literary stroll along the Schöneberg Loop in the form of a book
first of all seems strange, however, in the course of reading becomes
increasingly enjoyable and turns out to be a brilliant strategy. The to
some extent self-ironic treatment demonstrates an intense analysis and
leads to an intelligent concept which delivers precise proposals for
selected special places along the promenade. The proposed programmatic
and architectural interventions demonstrate high quality standards
which should be developed further and gone into in more detail.
The “extro“ of the book supplies a possible strategy for implementing
