Frequency of Switching
For frequent switching, heavy duty and other special
operating conditions, extra attention has to be paid to the
right choice of the design needed to meet your
requirements. Please state the exact technical data and
operating conditions.
Electrical Connection
Except for the pole-changing units, our motors are
designed for two rated voltages.
for low voltage (e.g. 230 V) :
delta connection
for higher voltage (e.g. 400 V) :
star connection ( Y )
For direct-on-line operation, the starting torque is 150 %
to 300 % of the rated torque, depending on power and
number of poles. The start-up current is 4 to 6 times
higher than the rated current.
In case of star-delta starting, the starting torque and the
start-up current decrease to abt. 1/3 of the rates occurring
at a direct-on-line start. Please observe the wiring
diagramme in the terminal box of every Geared Motor
supplied.
Motor Protection Switches
Motor protection switches prevent an excessive heatingup
of the motors on account of overload. Their
incorporation is recommended. The thermal overload cutout
of the motor protection switch must be adjusted to the
rated current of the motors indicated on the rating plate
(price on request).
Temperature Sensors
Another means to prevent overloads are temperature
sensors inserted in the winding.
The following optional designs are available :
a) Thermal Switches
Bi-metal thermally operated circuit-breakers are
embedded in the stator winding, breaking the control
circuit of the contactor control at 130° C (insulation
class B). The break can only be effective where a slow
temperature rise is occuring in the motor.
b) Complete Protection
Motors can be equipped with a full motor protection for
special operating conditions, e.g. heavy voltage
fluctuations, high frequency of switching etc. Complete
motor protection will be obtained by installing PTC
resistor temperature sensors in every stator coil.
These temperature sensors and their corresponding
release relays have to be integrated in a retaining
circuit.
Anti-Condensation-Heaters
Windings of motors exposed to the risk of bedewing on
account of climatic conditions, e.g. idle machinery stored
in humid locations or motors subject to extreme
temperature fluctuations, can be equipped with anticondensation-heaters.
This equipment can be
incorporated from motor frame size 71 onwards (price
available on request).
