volved in this sport would love toachieve even that ratio. When you are selling this sportto your friends and suggesting theybecome involved, I'm sure you talkto them about the fun they willhave. You probably describe theclassification system, the scoring, and the opportunity to attendmatches of all sizes in many differentplaces all using the same rules, targets, and range commands. Fun,safety, and the wonderful people involvedare positive aspects of thesport and those considering makingthe investment of time and moneyto get involved should know aboutthem. In my opinion it is also importantto inform prospective members ofthe volunteer nature of the sportand that the shooter's overall experiencecan be enhanced by helpingwith the necessary club chores andwith match production. Prospectivemembers should understand, beforethey commit to membership, that theirhelp is needed and that they will beexpected to do their share to makethe club function. They need to understandthat stages don't get designed, set up, or torn down withoutthe dedication of people who arealso competitors. It is important to fully understandthe concept of volunteerismwithin the context of this sport. What it means is that the match director, range master, stats officer, and all of the range officers arrivedearly and stayed late so everyoneelse could shoot. It means that a fewindividuals spent their evenings andweekends doing the drudgery ofplanning and reporting so that everyonewho wished to attend had amatch to go to that weekend. It is certainly true that most ofthem do it because they want to andbecause they get satisfaction from it,but ask yourself how long you thinkthat intangible feeling of satisfactionholds up when no one helps, no onesays thanks, and many complainabout how the volunteer does hisjob? In my opinion, prospective newshooters should be informed thatthey are needed, not only to compete, but also to make the sportwork by volunteering./A\E'THE CHOICE OF CHAMPIONS!More Pro Match firearms winners have worn PRO EARS thanall other makes of hearing protection combined!Ross Newell,Australian Champ:,Todd Jarrett, World Shoot Xl, 1997 FIPT19::5-96 10 Area ChampionshipsJerre IOWA1993, 94, 95, 96Internatinnai1996 AmericanHandgunnerWorld Shoot-GffChempronSporting Clays 'LE'41 a • •The Choice of Champions!WELCOME TO THE NEXTGENERATION PRO EARS!PRO EARS `LE"" (Linear ElitelThe most advanced Electronic HearingProtection/Enhancement ever offered.• 'Dynamic Sound Compression. instantly 'compresses' loudnoise to a safe level.
