No driver interactionis required. The Brake Traction Control(BTC) System, which combinesstandard ABS and Traction Control,provides resistance to any wheel thatis slipping to allow additional torquetransfer to wheels with traction.QUADRA-TRAC II ® /QUADRA-DRIVE II ®FOUR-WHEEL DRIVEQuadra-Trac II ® /Quadra-DriveII ® Operating Instructions/Precautions• The Quadra-Trac II ® /Quadra-DriveII ® transfer case is fully automatic inthe normal driving 4WD HI mode.The Quadra-Trac II ® /Quadra-DriveII ® transfer case provides three modepositions:• 4WD HI• NEUTRAL• 4WD LOW• This transfer case is fully automatic inthe 4WD HI mode.• When additional traction is required,the 4WD LOW position can be usedto lock the front and rear driveshaftstogether and force the front and rearwheels to rotate at the same speed.The 4WD LOW position is intendedfor loose, slippery surfaces only.Driving in the 4WD LOW position ondry, hard-surfaced roads may causeincreased tire wear and damage todriveline components.• When operating your vehicle in 4WDLOW, the engine speed isapproximately three times that of the4WD HI position at a given roadspeed. Take care not to overspeed theengine and do not exceed 25 mph(40 km/h).NOTE:• If shift conditions/interlocks are not met,or a transfer case motor temperatureprotection condition exists, a “For 4x4Low Slow Below 5 MPH or 8 KPH PutTrans in N Press 4 Low” message willflash from the Electronic VehicleInformation Center (EVIC).Shifting Procedures4WD HI To 4WD LOW• With the vehicle at speeds of 0 to3 mph (0 to 5 km/h), the ignitionswitch in the ON/RUN position or theengine running, shift the transmissioninto NEUTRAL, and press the “4WDLOW” button once on the transfercase switch. The “4WD LOW”indicator light in the instrument clusterwill begin to flash and remain on solidwhen the shift is complete.56
