OFF-ROAD CAPABILITIES4WD LOW To 4WD HI• With the vehicle at speeds of 0 to3 mph (0 to 5 km/h), the ignitionswitch in the ON/RUN position or theengine running, shift the transmissioninto NEUTRAL, and press the “4WDLOW” button once on the transfercase switch. The “4WD LOW”indicator light in the instrument clusterwill flash and turn off when the shift iscomplete.NOTE:• If the shift conditions/interlocks are notmet, or a transfer case motortemperature protection exists, a “For 4x4Low Slow Below 5 MPH or 8 KPH PutTrans in N Press 4 Low” message willflash on the Electronic VehicleInformation Center (EVIC).• Shifting into or out of 4WD LOW ispossible with the vehicle completelystopped; however, difficulty may occurdue to the mating clutch teeth not beingproperly aligned. Several attempts maybe required for clutch teeth alignmentand shift completion to occur. Thepreferred method is with the vehiclerolling 0 to 3 mph (0 to 5 km/h). If thevehicle is moving faster than 3 mph(5 km/h), the transfer case will not allowthe shift.NEUTRAL Shift Procedure• Turn the ignition switch to theON/RUN position, engine off.• Vehicle stopped, with foot on brake.• Place the transmission into NEUTRAL.• Press and hold the NEUTRAL buttonlocated near the 4WD mode controlknob with a pen or similar object forfour seconds. The indicator light willbegin to flash indicating the shift is inprogress. The light will stop blinking(stay on solid) when the NEUTRAL shiftis complete. A “4WD SYSTEM INNEUTRAL” message will display onthe Electronic Vehicle InformationCenter (EVIC).• Repeat these Steps to shift out ofNEUTRAL.SELEC-TERRAIN• Selec-Terrain combines thecapabilities of the vehicle controlsystems, along with driver input, toprovide the best performance for allterrains.Rotate the mode control knob to select thefollowing Selec-Terrain positions:• Sport – Dry weather, on-roadcalibration. Only available in 4WDHigh range. Performance-basedtuning that provides a rear wheeldrive feel but with improved handlingand acceleration over a two-wheeldrive vehicle. The Electronic StabilityControl will set to allow more drivercontrol of the vehicle whilemaintaining safe handling controls.The vehicle will lower (if equippedwith Air Suspension) by 0.59 inches(15 mm) in the SPORT mode.• Snow – The Electronic StabilityControl is set for additional stability ininclement weather. Use on and offroad on loose traction surfaces suchas snow.• Auto – Fully automatic full-timefour-wheel drive operation can beused on and off road. Balancestraction with steering feel to provideimproved handling and accelerationover two-wheel drive vehicles.57
