Laa ilaaha illal-­‐laahul ‘aDHeemul Haleem, laa ilaaha illallaahu rabbul-­‐'arshil-­‐'aDHeem, laa ilaaha illallaahu rabbu-­‐s-­‐samawati wa rabbu-­‐l-­‐ardhi, wa rabbul-­‐'arshil-­‐kareem. “There is no god but Allah, the Great, the Tolerant, there is no god but Allah, the Lord of the Magnificent Throne. There is no god but Allah, the Lord of the heaven and the earth, and the Lord of the Edifying Throne.” (Al-Bukhari, 5986) Note: The only medicine in a time of distress is the remembrance of Allah, Whose help alone should be sought. This du’aa contains words which glorify Allah and exalt Him far above all else. It is desirable to recite these words when one is in distress as this is exactly what the Prophet used to recite in such situations. 16 Al-Karb wal-HammAllaahumma innee ‘abduka, ibnu ‘abdika, ibnu amatika, naaSiyati bi yadika, maadhin fiyya hukmuka, ‘adlun fiyya qadaa-­‐uka, as-­‐aluka bi kullismin huwa laka sammayta bihee nafsaka aw anzaltahu fee kitaabika aw ‘allamtahu ahadan min khalqika awista-­‐tharta bihee fee ‘ilmil-­‐ghaybi ‘indaka an taj’alal-­‐Qur-­‐aana rabee’a qalbee wa noora baSaree, wa jalaa-­‐a Huznee, wa thahaaba hammee. “O Allah, I am Your slave, son of Your slave, son of Your female slave, my forelock is in Your hand, Your command over me is forever executed and Your decree over me is just. I ask You by every Name belonging to You which You named Yourself with, or revealed in Your Book, or You taught to any of Your creation, or You have preserved in the knowledge of the unseen with You, that You make the Qur’an the life of my heart and the light of my breast, and a departure for my sorrow and a release for my anxiety.” (Ibn Hibban, 972) 16 Riyad-us-Saliheen- 93 -
