have been requested to rule on this assessment.
Currently, at the City’s request, additional
soil tests are being carried out on various
locations. In October 2010 the City of Nijmegen
concluded that “a situation of serious soil
pollution exists” but that “as there are no immediate
unacceptable risks, sanitation can
wait until there are naturally suited circumstances,
as in the case of new construction.”
3.6 Noise

Meeting the standards of the ‘Zone Model’ of
the City of Nijmegen
The industrial area in which Sappi Nijmegen
BV is located, has been divided into a number
of ‘zones’ according to the Wet Geluidhinder,
the Noise Pollution Act. These zones are managed
by the City of Nijmegen.
Sappi Nijmegen B.V. complies to all regulations
pertaining to noise in the current license
granted under the Environmental Management
Act.
3.7 Fire prevention, external
safety and emergencies
3.7.1 BHV organization
Sappi Nijmegen BV has its own BHV organization
(BedrijfsHulpVerlening – Emergency
Assistance Team), which is on call 24/7, 365
days in the year. The team consists of fire
fighters and first-aid specialists, supervised
by a BHV Coordinator. End responsibility lies
with the Production Shift Leader. Apart from
this BHV organization, Sappi Nijmegen BV
also has an emergency team, made up of
members of the management team. Depending
on type and severity of the situation at
hand, the emergency team can assume full
control.
In 2011, fire fighters and first-aid personnel
have practiced their knowledge and skills in
adhering to procedures as stipulated in the
BNP, the company emergency plan.
