Description of business activities
The Nijmegen paper mill is part of the
Sappi Group, one of the leading producers
of coated fine paper used for a
broad range of print applications, such
as glossy magazines, catalogues, etc.
Customers who buy Sappi’s products
are paper merchants, printers and
publishers.
1.1 Sappi Nijmegen BV
Production of fine paper makes up two thirds
of the total turnover of the Sappi Group. Apart
from this, Sappi Fine Paper Europe produces
pulp, coated specialty paper grades, packaging
paper and uncoated papers.
The globally active Sappi Group started out
as a South-African company. Today, it employs
approx. 15,000 people on five continents,
with production facilities in South-Africa,
North-America and Europe.
Production detail
The mill in Nijmegen, part of Sappi Fine Paper
Europe S.A., is an exclusive producer of twosides
double coated fine paper. It employs
around 197 people, most of them working in
round-the-clock shifts. The mill has a maximum
production capacity of approximately
300,000 tons of paper per year. Nijmegen
produces well-known brands such as Royal
Roto Matt, Royal Roto Silk and Royal Roto
Brilliant Plus in grammages from 90 g/m 2 to
170 g/m 2 .
Its market is the entire world.
1.2 Description of business

Incoming raw materials and additives
Most of the raw materials and additives are
delivered to the mill by ship. Some additives
are brought in by road or rail transport.
