Complaints registered by Sappi Nijmegen BV in 2011
07-10-2011 Due to miscommunication, no permit was issued to a ship’s captain for
unloading cellulose. This has been reported by way of complaint to the
Province of Gelderland. The company has been advised of the incident, after
which the permit was issued as a retroactive correction.
Reports submitted by Sappi Nijmegen BV in 2011 to the authorities in matters pertaining to
the environment
11-04-2011 Water: Approximately 600 m3 of water has been transferred to communal
sewage.
15-06-2011 Water: As a result of broke disposal, approximately 200 m3 of water has been
transferred to communal sewage.
13-08-2011 Water: As a result of pressure fluctuations during broke disposal, a conduit to
the waste water treatment plant burst, causing waste water and paper pulp to
flood streets, ending up in ditches. At the same time, approximately 2,050 m3
of water was transferred to communal sewage. An extensive report has been
made, with suggestions to prevent similar incidents in the future.
04-10-2012 Water: As a result of new pump settings after a conduit burst, approximately
104 m3 of waste water was transferred to communal sewage.
27-10-2011 Water: At the request of Waterschap Rivierenland, water was transferred to
communal sewage. This was done in connection with maintenance to the
effluent mill, which also processes effluent from Sappi Nijmegen’s waste water
treatment plant.
Four out of five reports concern discharges of waste water into communal sewage. These
discharges of waste water into communal sewage have no negative impact on the environment.
