TheTar Heels entered the game ranked 22nd inthe n<strong>at</strong>ion in the AP poll and 25th in then<strong>at</strong>ion in the USA Today/ESPN/WBCAcoaches’ poll. <strong>Buffalo</strong> shot 85 percent fromthe free throw line, including 13-of-14 in thefinal 1:34 of the game. The win was theBulls’ 400th all-time in the history of thewomen’s basketball program and it came infront of a record-setting 4,017 fans, the mostever to <strong>at</strong>tend a women's basketball game <strong>at</strong><strong>UB</strong>'s Alumni Arena.The Bulls held a 39-37 lead <strong>at</strong> halftimeand McClure and fellow senior Tiffany Bellcombined for 26 of their final 27 points tosecure the win. Both tied a career high forfree throws made with Bell finishing thenight 13-of-15 from the foul line andMcClure finishing 11-of-13. The Bulls countered th<strong>at</strong> comebackwith 10 unanswered points, six straight byMcClure, to take their largest lead of thenight, 55-45 with 11:17 remaining. ThePurple Eagles continued b<strong>at</strong>tling, however,and they led by one on two separ<strong>at</strong>eoccasions l<strong>at</strong>e in the game, 65-64 with 2:28remaining and 67-66 with 1:07 remaining.A jumper and two free throws by McCluregave <strong>Buffalo</strong> the lead back both times, andshe hit five of her six free throw <strong>at</strong>tempts inthe final minute of play to secure the Bulls'win.McClure finished the night shooting10-of-13 from the foul line. With her 21 points, Bellmoved into third place all-time in scoring<strong>at</strong> <strong>UB</strong> with 1,179 career points.The Bulls jumped out to an early lead,scoring the first 12 points of the game enroute to a 33-20 halftime lead th<strong>at</strong> theGriffs, playing in their season opener,could not overcome. <strong>Buffalo</strong> shot slightlybetter from the floor (27-for-63 comparedto 21-for-67 for Canisius), and the Bullsoutrebounded the Griffs by a 49-40margin. Senior Sonia Ortega tied hercareer high with a game-high 13 rebounds,and freshman Jessica Kochendorfergrabbed nine boards.
