<strong>University</strong> <strong>at</strong> <strong>Buffalo</strong> 2000-01 <strong>Game</strong> Summaries<strong>Game</strong> 13January 6, 2001<strong>Buffalo</strong> 75, Akron 61Attendance: 602Senior Tiffany Bell recorded her thirddouble-double of the season and seniorsSonia Ortega and Mari McClure both scoredin double figures to lead the Bulls to a winover visiting Akron <strong>at</strong> Alumni Arena, 75-61.The Bulls set the tone for the game in thefirst half defensively as they allowed just eightbuckets and forced 13 Zips' turnovers. <strong>UB</strong>outscored Akron by a 23-4 margin in the firstnine minutes of the game, aided by a 13-0run, and led by 19 points <strong>at</strong> halftime, 40-21.In the second half, the Zips got within 10, 57-47, with 7:36 showing on the clock, butconsecutive three-point plays by Bell andMcClure increased <strong>Buffalo</strong>'s lead to 63-47,and the Zips never thre<strong>at</strong>ened after th<strong>at</strong>.Bell finished with 18 points and 12rebounds, and she was 6-of-8 from the foulline, moving her into a tie with Brenna Doty(1993-97) for the top spot on <strong>UB</strong>'s all-timecareer free throws made list (345). TheGolden Flashes domin<strong>at</strong>ed the glass,outrebounding the Bulls by a 38-26 margin,and they shot 47% from the floor, including44% from three-point range.The Bulls opened the scoring on ajumper by Kochendorfer one minute intoregul<strong>at</strong>ion, and <strong>Buffalo</strong> held a slightadvantage for the first seven minutes of thegame until Kent St<strong>at</strong>e slowly inched its wayinto the lead. The Golden Flashes were up33-22 <strong>at</strong> the half, and a three-pointer bysenior Mari McClure ended an 8-3 <strong>Buffalo</strong>run in the second half th<strong>at</strong> cut Kent St<strong>at</strong>e'slead to seven, 49-42 with 10:13 remainingin the game. The Bulls got within five, 65-60 with 30 seconds remaining on the clock,before time ran out on their <strong>at</strong>temptedcomeback.<strong>Buffalo</strong> senior Sonia Ortega recorded acareer-high nine steals, and McClurefinished with 12 points, all in the secondhalf, four rebounds, six assists and twosteals. TheBobc<strong>at</strong>s came back, however, and theyscored on nine straight shots during aspan of four minutes and 20 seconds andthen hit 10-of-10 free throws in the finalthree minutes of the game to secure thevictory. Ohio outscored the Bulls by a26-3 margin <strong>at</strong> the foul line for the game.The loss was <strong>Buffalo</strong>'s first of the seasonafter leading <strong>at</strong> halftime.Kochendorfer was 7-of-8 from thefloor, and she scored in double figures forthe second straight game.
