J. <strong>Gullion</strong>selder and only brother. W. J. says that he <strong>of</strong>ten heard his brother tell aboutthe funeral <strong>of</strong> President Lincoln in which he participated as a guard. Someman he was,says W.J. Notas big as I but a scrapper who was not quarrelsome, but who never took size intoconsideration when abused.The old veteran was visiting his brother two more years ago.Read it:Jeremiah <strong>Gullion</strong>, one <strong>of</strong> two remaining civil war veterans in this section, answered the lastroll call at an early hour this morning at the home <strong>of</strong> his daughter, Mrs. Frank Wolf, at Halls<strong>Co</strong>rner. He was ninety years <strong>of</strong> ages last August and was under eighteen when he enlisted in theUnion Army in 1864.Mr. <strong>Gullion</strong> was born at Tracy, Iowa, August 28, 1846, spending most <strong>of</strong> his life there andcoming east to reside with his daughter about a year ago.So far as known he is the only surviving veteran <strong>of</strong> the guard <strong>of</strong> honor that <strong>of</strong>ficiated at thefuneral <strong>of</strong> President Lincoln at Springfield, Ill. He enlisted Feb. 26, 1864, in <strong>Co</strong>mpany C, 8thRegiment, volunteer Infantry, Iowa, and was honorably discharged July 25, 1865, having fought in117
