Originally established asHuron College, Huron changed its nameto Huron University College with RoyalAssent in June 2000. To be part of Huronis to be part of one of the oldest Universitycommunities in Canada.In 1951, Huron moved to its presentlocation and has since seen major growthnot only in its student enrollment, butalso in its residence facilities, classrooms,library, and faculty offices. From its modestbeginnings in 1956 with 45 full-timestudents, the Faculty of Arts and SocialScience (originally known as the Faculty ofArts), now boasts a student enrollment ofover 1200 full-time students. Our Facultyof Theology continues to attract students toits Bachelor of Theology, Master of Divinity,Master of Theological Studies and Master ofArts (Theology) programs. Many of these opportunities includecourses for credit towards their degree atHuron.Volunteer OpportunitiesIf you do not want to study abroad, butstill wish to be involved in our internationalinitiatives you can volunteer with GLOBE. Thisstudent club networks with a number of committeesconcerned with active involvement inworld issues. A score of 4 or higheron this writing assessment allows students toreceive the Certificate upon graduation. Manypeople have found this a useful qualification toattach to their resumes. This year at graduationwe awarded four Certificates of Proficiency andone Certificate of Excellence in Writing.The Writing Centre staff, along with thePeer Writing Instructors, provide individualhelp with writing problems and giveworkshops on writing skills.
