After completing their first year <strong>of</strong>study at the ISC, the students return to Canadato complete their degree at Huron.Study AbroadOther study abroad opportunities can bearranged by students to attend universitiesworld-wide, lasting anywhere between a weekto a year. Many <strong>of</strong> these opportunities includecourses for credit towards their degree atHuron.Volunteer OpportunitiesIf you do not want to study abroad, butstill wish to be involved in our internationalinitiatives you can volunteer with GLOBE. Thisstudent club networks with a number <strong>of</strong> committeesconcerned with active involvement inworld issues. Some <strong>of</strong> the committees include:WUSC - activities include education and awareness<strong>of</strong> issues faced by developing countries,sponsorship <strong>of</strong> a refugee student each year (toattend Huron); Amnesty International Committee-educatesand takes action against humanrights abuse; Red Cross Committee-conductseducational campaigns about humanitarianconcerns.Writing Services at Huron438-7224 ext. 317www.huronuc.ca/writingcentreThere are a number <strong>of</strong> services that havebeen developed to help students improve theiracademic essay writing skills at Huron.Graduating students who wish to receive aCertificate <strong>of</strong> Pr<strong>of</strong>iciency in Writing must takethe Writing Pr<strong>of</strong>iciency assessment again in theyear that they graduate. A score <strong>of</strong> 4 or higheron this writing assessment allows students toreceive the Certificate upon graduation. Manypeople have found this a useful qualification toattach to their resumes. This year at graduationwe awarded four Certificates <strong>of</strong> Pr<strong>of</strong>iciency andone Certificate <strong>of</strong> Excellence in Writing.The Writing Centre staff, along with thePeer Writing Instructors, provide individualhelp with writing problems and giveworkshops on writing skills.
