Industry under Category A <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Schedule <strong>of</strong> EIA Notification 2006 and appraised by <strong>the</strong> <strong>Expert</strong><strong>Appraisal</strong> <strong>Committee</strong> (Industry-1) <strong>of</strong> MoEF.M/s. Berry Alloys Limited has proposed for expansion <strong>of</strong> Ferro Alloys Manufacturing Unit at PlotNo: 368, Growth Center, APIIC, Bobbili (V & M),Vizianagaram (D), Andhra Pradesh. The land acquiredfor expansion is 3.42 acres and existing land is 10.0 Acers. Green belt will be developed in 4.43 acres.Total cost <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> proposed expansion project will be Rs. 30 Crores and Rs. 2 Crores is allocated forEMP.The following are details <strong>of</strong> existing & proposed expansion facilities and production Capacities:S. Ferro Chrome 3,600 - 3,600Manganese ore, coal/coke, Dolomite, quartz, Fe-Mn Slag, carbon paste, Dry Briquetes,Magnesite, MS rounds, Mill scale and casting sheets will be used as raw materials. Manufacturingprocess involves smelting <strong>of</strong> charge materials in submerged arc furnace. Dust extraction system withPulse Jet bag filters will be provided to submerged arc furnace. Water sprinkling system will be providedto control fugitive dust emissions from material handling. Total fresh water requirement for proposedexpansion will be 38.4 KLD, which will be sourced from APIIC. No process wastewater will begenerated. Domestic wastewater will be sent to septic tank followed by dispersion trench. Zero effluentdischarge will be maintained. Ferro-Manganese slag will be reused in Silico-Manganese manufactureand Silico Manganese slag will be used in constructional works. Bag filter dust will be sent to fly ashbrick manufacturing units. Noise absorbing materials will be used in <strong>the</strong> construction <strong>of</strong> buildings etc.and less noise generating machinery will be installed. Total power requirement <strong>of</strong> 132 KVA will be metfrom <strong>the</strong> substation.Public hearing is not required as per Para 7 (i) III (b) <strong>of</strong> EIA Notification, 2006 as <strong>the</strong> project islocated in notified industrial area.After detailed deliberation, <strong>the</strong> <strong>Committee</strong> recommended <strong>the</strong> project for environmental clearancesubject to submission <strong>of</strong> Gazette Notification <strong>of</strong> Industrial Area, OHS data <strong>of</strong> workers & Revised OHSplan, Chemical and Trace Element analysis <strong>of</strong> Mn Ore and <strong>the</strong> stipulation <strong>of</strong> following specific conditionsalong with o<strong>the</strong>r environmental conditions:1. No charcoal shall be used as fuel. Pet coke shall be used as fuel instead <strong>of</strong> charcoal fromunknown sources.2. Continuous monitoring facilities for all <strong>the</strong> stacks and sufficient air pollution control equipmentsviz. fume extraction system with bag filters, ID fan and stack <strong>of</strong> adequate height to submergedarc furnace shall be provided to control emissions below 50 mg/Nm 3 .3. The National Ambient Air Quality Standards issued by <strong>the</strong> Ministry vide G.S.R. No. 826(E) dated16 th November, 2009 shall be followed.4. Secondary fugitive emissions from all <strong>the</strong> sources shall be controlled within <strong>the</strong> latest permissiblelimits issued by <strong>the</strong> Ministry and regularly monitored. Guidelines / Code <strong>of</strong> Practice issued by <strong>the</strong>CPCB shall be followed.5
