Demo #3709 Smeal Fire Apparatus Co. 75’ Heavy Duty AerialRIGHT SIDE MODULAR RUNNING BOARDA modular running board shall be installed on the right side of the pump compartment module. Therunning board shall be constructed of non-slip treadbrite. The outside edge of the running boardshall be flush with the rub rail that is installed on the body to maintain a uniform appearance.All running boards shall be installed with sufficient support to form a sturdy, non-deflecting steparea for personnel.ULTRA STAINLESS MARUTEX® SCREWSStainless steel screws shall be provided throughout the body in locations such as: overlays, pumppanels, and other numerous hardware mounting locations. In these locations the following screwspecification shall apply.The special ingredient in Ultra Stainless is Marutex®, which adds 2% molybdenum (moly) to 410stainless. Moly is the significant component of 316 stainless that provides extra corrosionresistance. The moly is now added to 410 self drilling screws to produce Ultra Stainless. Thiscombination provides for unprecedented corrosion resistance combined with hardness for drilling.Marutex® screws are tempered and quenched; regular T-140 self-drilling screws are casehardened. The additional carbon in Marutex® provides hardness for better drilling.In certified testing the Marutex® screws have shown far superior corrosion resistance than that of410 stainless, and 304 Bimetal screws. The screws were tested using two methods, the first was a500 hour salt spray test, and the second was the European Air Pollution Test using the Kesterichmethod. In this test a combination of condensation water and atmosphere containing sulfur dioxidewas sprayed on the screws. In both tests the Marutex® screws did not show any signs of rust, the410 and 304 samples on the other hand did.As part of quality control standards, samples from each batch of Ultra Stainless Marutex®screws shall be subject to a salt spray test for a minimum of 2500 hours. The test results shall beprovided at any time upon request by the customer.STEPPING, STANDING, WALKING SURFACESAll exterior surfaces designated by the manufacturer as stepping, standing, or walking areas shallbe constructed of grip strut or textured treadbrite and shall provide a highly slip resistant surface,even when the surface is wet. All interior surfaces designated by the manufacturer as stepping,standing, or walking areas shall be slip resistant when the surface is dry.The degree of slip resistance shall be in compliance with the intent of NFPA 1901 newest version.It is the desire of the fire department to purchase an apparatus that utilizes aluminum treadplate asan overlay of the main apparatus body structure. Aluminum treadplate may also be utilized in theconstruction of enclosure doors, lids and covers where applicable. Aluminum treadplate is not tobe utilized as a main structural member of the apparatus body or pump enclosure.WALKWAYS AND OVERLAYSThe running boards and walkways shall be constructed of structural sheet metal that is integral withthe body. They shall be overlaid with aluminum treadplate material to provide a slip resistantsurface, resulting in a full 1/4" thickness for maximum strength.Revised 6/2/09 Page 33 of 114
