Demo #3709 Smeal Fire Apparatus Co. 75’ Heavy Duty AerialNFPA COMPLIANT REFLECTIVE STRIPINGReflective striping shall be applied to the exterior of the apparatus in a manner consistent with theNational Fire Protection Association Pamphlet 1901, latest edition. It shall consist of a 1", 4", and a1" wide stripe low across the front of the chassis and along the sides up to the first compartmenton each side where it shall then angle up and back to a point above the wheel well area where itshall then run level to the back edge of the body. There shall be a 1" gap provided between eachof the stripes. A 6" wide stripe shall be applied across the rear of the apparatus. The reflectivestriping shall be white in color.Lettering to be contingent upon sale of aerial.RUB RAIL REFLECTIVE STRIPINGThere shall be 2" reflective striping installed in the rub rail channel. The reflective striping shall bediamond grade quality material for increased visibility. The reflective shall be silver in color.UNDERCOATINGThe apparatus shall undergo a two (2) step undercoating process. The first step shall be arubberized polyurethane base compound that is applied after the body has been primed. Thematerials used shall incorporate unused paint products to reduce the amount of waste releasedinto the environment. This coat shall be applied to all hidden pockets and surfaces that shall not bevisible after completion.As a final step, the entire underside of the body shall be coated with a bituminous basedautomotive type undercoating when the apparatus is completed. During this application, specialcare shall be taken to avoid spraying the product on air lines, cables, or other items that wouldcause normal maintenance to be hindered.MUD FLAPSFour (4) mud flaps shall be installed on the apparatus, two at the front and two at the rear. Themud flaps shall be a minimum of 3/8" thick to prevent "sailing".WHEEL CHOCKS & MOUNTINGThere shall be one (1) pair of Worden HWG wheel chocks provided with the apparatus. Thechocks shall be mounted in brackets that are easily accessible under the right side body.WHEEL CHOCKS & MOUNTINGThere shall be one (1) pair of Worden HWG wheel chocks provided with the apparatus. Thechocks shall be mounted in brackets that are easily accessible under the left side body.BATTERY CHARGERA Three Bank Pro Power, 120 volt, 30 amp (10 amps per bank), automatic battery charger shall beinstalled and wired to the shoreline receptacle and the chassis batteries. The charger shall be afully automatic waterproof system. Each bank of the charging system shall be capable ofproducing a charge to bring the batteries back to full charge. The unit shall turn off when thebattery is at full charge and turn on automatically if the battery voltage drops. There shall be acharge indicator display provided on the charger. Demo #3709 Smeal Fire Apparatus Co. 75’ Heavy Duty AerialREMOTE CHARGE INDICATORA bar graph shall be provided in a remote location to show what the status of the charge on thebatteries.COMPRESSOR SYSTEMA Kussmaul, model # 091-9B-1, 120 volt Air Compressor shall be installed. The system shallreceive power from the 110 volt shoreline receptacle. The compressor shall have an AC motoroperating a single cylinder air compressor designed specifically for installation on vehicles with airbrakes. The pump shall automatically start to maintain the air brake pressure. A heavy dutypressure switch is adjusted to start the compressor when the system pressure drops below 75psiand stops the compressor when 95 psi is attained. The start up pressure shallbe field adjustablethepressure defferential between start up and stopping is fixed. the compressor requires noroutine maintenance.OEM PAINTED CHASSIS RIMSThe chassis rims shall be as painted from the chassis manufacturer.CHASSIS BUILDER SUPPLIED HEAT EXCHANGERThe engine; chassis or auxiliary, providing power to drive the fire pump, shall have asupplementary cooling system that uses water from the discharge side of the pump to cool theengine coolant through the use of a closed heat exchanger. The water from the pump and theengine coolant shall not be intermixed. This cooling system shall be controlled by a valve on thepump operator's station.FUEL FILLThe fuel fill pocket shall be located in the left rear wheel well area. The fuel fill shall have a CastProducts aluminum door with bezel installed.FUEL FILL CAST DOOR - PAINT JOB COLORThe fuel fill cast door shall be painted job color, same as the body. The door frame shall have apolished aluminum finish that is provided from Cast Products.FUEL TANK GAUGE ACCESSThere shall be access provided in the torque box for service of the fuel tank gauge without need forremoving the fuel tank.THIRD PARTY CERTIFICATIONSAll bids shall include copies of the certification of testing of the aerial device. The purchaserdesires a device that has been tested by a third party for compliance with the 2 to 1 safety factorspecified by NFPA Pamphlet 1901, latest edition. Devices that have not been certified by anengineer that is independent of the manufacturer shall not be acceptable.Welds shall be tested using two (2) Non-Destructive methods by a third party inspection firm. Steeland aluminum ladders shall, at a minimum, have all welds tested using two (2) separate NDTmethods.Revised 6/2/09 Page 49 of 114
