Visitthe provincial museum and drive along thepicturesque Sangker River to visit Wat EkPhnom. In the afternoon, visit the PhnomSampeau and Phnom Banon, most notablefor its five sandstone towers standing on topof a hill. Overnight in Battambang. (B)Day 6 Battambang to Phnom PenhTransfer to the Bamboo Train station. Travel8km on this very basic train, passing throughbeautiful landscapes of lush fields and ricepaddies. On arrival, visit the village anddiscover more about life in rural Cambodia.Stop at a woodcarving workshop, visit a localNGO and see beautiful colonial houses. Headto Phnom Penh and transfer to the hotel for2 nights. Rest of day free. (B)Day 7 Phnom PenhEnjoy a full day city tour including the NationalMuseum, the Silver Pagoda, the Royal Palace,Wat Phnom and the Central Market. In theafternoon, visit the Tuol Sleng Genocide Museumand the notorious Khmer Rouge Killing Fields. (B)Day 11 Luang PrabangEmbark on a Mekong River cruise throughtranquil countryside to the mysterious PakOu Caves. Stop at the rice wine-producingvillage of Ban Xanghai. On the return journey,visit traditional villages including Ban Phanom,known for its hand weaving. In the afternoonvisit the Royal Palace Museum and themagnificent Wat Xiengthong with its roofssweeping low to the ground, typical of classicalLaotian architecture. There is also time to visitthe stupa of Wat Visoun and the shrines of WatAham and Wat Mai. (B)Day 12 Luang PrabangAn optional early start offers a fantasticopportunity to participate in the daily morningrituals of saffron-clad monks collecting offeringsof Alms (ubiquitous sticky rice) from the faithfulresidents. From here, visit the morning PhosiMarket where you will see such diverse offeringsas dried buffalo skin, local tea and saltpetreamong the chickens, vegetables and hill-tribeweavings. Also enjoy a visit to a local village ofLao ethnic minority groups at Ban Ouay and BanThapene. Return to Luang Prabang and continueto Ban Phanom, a well-known weaving villagebefore returning to the city by late evening forwatching the sunset at Wat Siphouthabath.
